You need a passport because it has photo identification and can store all the visas and stamps you need to cross borders.

thisgirl
No you would be stopped at customs and strip searched

You have to have a passport now for most every country now, especially England. And whoever said that you didn't used to is wrong as you always have had to have one. Somebody said something about registering with immigration in the US and UK? Don't know what that is about as you just fly to England and at the airport they give you a 6 month visa right away. So get a passport. So few Americans have them and then when they want to go somewhere they freak out because it can take a couple of months to get one though I paid an extra $100 and got mine in one week. You can apply for a passport at most post offices and they are good for ten years!

No, you need a passport that has a number that is registered by immigration services, both of the US and England, and they need a place to stamp your leaving and entry to each country.

No you need a passport

Maybe but, I would get a passport just in case. It would be much better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and God bless.

You used to be able to, but not anymore. Since 9-11 you have to use a passport to visit any other country.

Who said you used to be able to, but not since 11th September? Of course you need a passport to travel, with few exceptions, and have done for a very, very long time, it's just that only 10% of Americans ever bother to.
