Great Britain is Scotland,England and Wales. The United Kingdom(UK) is the United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland.Britain is only an abbreviation used to refer to either.
The UK passport actually says citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

UK is the United Kingdom of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Great Britain is the mainland area and offshore islands under its control, and Britain is the mainland itself. I think that's it, but someone may improve on that. The thing is that there are differences in the terms. Just as America, North America, and the United States of America refer to different bits.

sarch_uk
The simplest explanation is...
Britain is a shortened version of Great Britain , which is probably from Grande Bretagne and was called this to avoid confusion with Brittany in France.

Great Britain consists of
England - a country, capital = London
Wales - a country and principality, capital = Cardiff
Scotland - a country, capital = Edinburgh

The United Kingdom (UK) consists of
England
Wales
Scotland
Northern Ireland - province known as Ulster, capital = Belfast
Commonly known as...
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

The capital of The United Kingdom and Great Britain is London.

The Republic of Ireland known as Southern Ireland and/or Eire whose capital is Dublin, has not been part of the United Kingdom since the 1920's

UK = Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland & England.

Great Britain & Britain are the same thing....
Wales, Scotland & England.

That's why it's annoying when people call English people British. Because we are not scottish, or welsh - we are English.

English English English!

UK = United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
GB = Wales + England + Scotland
British Isles = All of the above plus the Channel Islands and Isle of Man and Ireland (Eire)

The following is a probable answer.

England and Scotland together form Britain. England, Scotland and Wales constitute Great Britain. When you add Northern Ireland to the combination of England, Scotland and Wales, it becomes UK or United Kingdom.

I think it is all the same like the USA, America, United States.

The only difference is ........................................... number of letters you are typing to name the same place.

United Kingdom. Where the British Live. Where the older British Live.

?

Actually United Kingdom Usually Refers to England, Whales, etc. The rest normally refer to England

uk is united kingdom bcoz of the colonies and everyhing,,,same for GREAT britain,,,great britain was te former name of the country, but because theres a place in france called the same i think , the french made thm change it into uk and now its the official name of the country, though many ppl call it still great britain or jus britain,,,!
