A few major stores may accept Euros, but not all stores. After all, the Euro is not an official UK currency.

You will definitely need pounds for the majority of your spending, for food and travel, etc.

The Euro is not legal tender in the UK. The Pound Sterling is. You can spend Euros in many mainland European countries with no problem.

However, in Central London there ARE some very tourist-oriented places which will accept your Euros, for example if you're buying souveniers - but remember these places will take the Euros at their own exchange rate so you could be getting short changed.

ATMs do not dispense Euros in England. Most shops do not accept Euros. Better to withdraw some Pounds from the ATM or use your credit/debit card for purchases.

The Euro is legal tender if you jump across the pond to Ireland (not Northern Ireland).

Only if it accepts euros...

Check out this article, it lists where the euro can be used in UK...

A few major stores may take Euros if you stick to the main branches in London. However, you will generally struggle to pay for things if you have Euros as Pound Sterling (alpha code GBP numeric code 826) is the legal currency.

A lot of Central London stores accept Euros but there is no obligation for them to accept them. Despite the UK being part of the EU they have not gone over to the Euro yet. All stores will accept Sterling (Pounds) though.

Marks and Spencer accept Euro's...

The UK is in the European Union but we do not use the Euro. We use Pounds Sterling and you will need these in the UK. Ireland has the Euro but UK doesn't. You can use credit cards though as your bank will convert it for you in your statement. It's like asking if you can use Canadian Dollars in the US.

vicki.2412
No . . you need pounds

Hot and Gorgeous!
No, English pound only Im afraid.

spook542
Sorry to tell you this but you generally can't, there may be some shops that accept them but it will be at a stupid rate of exchange.
We are now in the absolutely farcical situation where the UK is in Europe but we don't use the European currency. That means you'll have to convert dollars into Sterling for use in the UK and also dollars (and any unused Sterling) into Euros for use in the rest of Europe. hence getting stung twice by the exchange rates and commission.
Nearly all the people who wish to keep the Pound conveniently overlook this fact when banging on about their misguided attempts to retain Sterling in the UK.

welshdragon93
I don't think so,

Yes you can.

vimesfan01
No.

Not officially. I mean, someone might take them. Just like some shops there will take US dollars if they know the exchange rate.

But the UK is not in the European Union, they do not use Euros.

Euro = European Union

UK is NOT European Union.
