I live on the river. It's one of the entrances where the romans successfully invaded britain. Also it's where the prison ships were moored centuries ago. |

The grave of St. Patrick is just up the road from our house. It is covered with a very large stone. The grave that is, not the house. |

Cwmtwrch-The name Cwmtwrch (Valley of the Wild Boar) derives from the “twrch trwyth” (mythical wild boar) of King Arthur’s legends and the ancient tales of the Mabinogion in early Welsh literature. The legend relates to one of Arthur’s tasks: to rid the western Brecon beacons of the pack of wild boars that were terrorizing the people. Arthur chased the boars from Dyfed eastward towards Powys. On the Black Mountain, he picked up a large stone (carreg fryn fras) and cast it towards the wild animals, striking dead the leader of the pack on the edge of a the valley near Craig-Y-Fran Gorge. The big boar's body rolled down the valley and into the river which is now the River Twrch. |

Queen Victoria stayed in a Mansion for some time near me in a very big park (Biggest walled Park in Europe) called the Phoenix park in Dublin. All the staff were local and to give the town work she paid for them to build the catholic church in the little village beside the park. It gave everyone a job and boosted the towns peoples lives no end. |

I couldn't find a interesting fact so this will do:
At the centre of Mid Devon lies the market town of Tiverton, which boasts a castle, historic almshouses and an award-winning museum. An ideal way to relax whilst spending time in Tiverton is to take a trip in a horse-drawn barge along the Great Western canal. |

The very first canal lock (in UK) is at the end of the river where we live!

Bristol is where the expression 'cash on the nail' came from. There is a covered market there and there are 3 Brass 'Nails' outside. They are like single leg tables where prices for goods were established. The deal was struck by banging the money on the nail - hence cash on the nail!
There are lots of interesting facts actually - but thats one to be going on with! |
