Can you really taste the difference between tea made with freshly boiled water vs. "reboiled" water?

When I refer to reboiled, I mean heating up water that was boiled a couple of hrs ago (NOT days ago).

Many people can taste the difference. It does have to do with the gases dissolved in the water. The harder the boil (or reboil) the less gases and the blander the taste of the tea.

One solution is to aerate the water after boiling. This is usually done by pouring it for a long way (over a foot) above the pot or cup. Some use a strainer to do the same job (like the aerator on a faucet).

Yes, the water tastes more "flat", or at least I think it does.

Yes you actually can. If you only heat the water and don't boil it..it really has a different taste. try it both ways yourself and see:) hope this helps:)

I say yes because I am an avid tea drinker. I make it all kinds of ways boiled and reboiled do taste different to me. My preference is keep the variety going, but SUN TEA is the absolute best. In boiled tea I will sometimes add fresh cut strawberries to the water as it's boiled.

I must admit, I couldn't tell the difference, as I don't regularly drink tea. I drink coffee, but my wife drinks tea, and she can tell the difference. She can even tell if I have stirred my coffee with the same spoon as I stir her tea, even if the spoon has dried.

I just don't understand how it could be any different. scientifically...it should be the same.

The 2nd boil is using water with no oxygen left in it, so those that take tea without milk will probably notice.
In the UK, we know a lot about tea, there is one company (Taylors of Harrogate) that used to blend tea in accordance with the water in the area it is to be sold. Generally, the further South you are in UK the harder (Therefore worse) the water gets. But some parts of the North have hard water, Merseyside for example. Talors are now a high street main supplier so don't do such a bespoke service anymore. Their tea is the best "Mainstream" though. Only very expensive speciality Breakfast teas etc. taste better.

By the way, Coffee is the opposite, if it actually boils it scorches the beans or even instant stuff. But, they don't make electric kettles that go off at about 90 :-(

absolutely the best way to make tea is use all the water your going to use and boil it dont add any cold water and after a full boil take it off the stove and let the teabags set for a while without heat then of course ice and drink

'Er indoors!!
Not really, but I have to filter my water, as it tastes awful, and I can always tell when it hasn't been filtered, My wife sometimes get's impatient, and tries to trick me by making the tea without filtering the water first. It always ends up down the sink.
