Can you recommend a UK child friendly holiday place? |
Preferably easy to get to by train, and preferably by the sea. Additional Details Thanks for your answers - I should have put *not* the holiday camps or commercial places like Blackpool.
I'm looking for a nice town/place by the sea with a good beach where the kids will be safe. |

Dorset. There is a town called Swanage which is on the beach and there are some nice little shops in swanage and a toy shop. there is a play park which is nice and a little fair gorund called Santa fae. there is a farm not to far from swanage called putlake. everything shuts there like in october so anytime before then you will be fine. there are some fish and chip reataurants and takeway places on the pier there. it is really good. if you go there go to the Hayman Bakery. How about Weston Super Mare? It's a cute little sea side own with a lot of "days gone by" charm about it.
There are a lot of seaside towns up & down the coast of Britain that would br suitable for you.
How about Torquay, Newquay, Brighton or Scarborough? |

I second the recommendation for Broadstairs in Kent. We just spent the bank holiday weekend there with our two-year-old, and it was lovely. A good sandy beach, with rock pools to explore, plus a good selection of rides and slides on the beach itself.
There's a good selection of shops and restaurants on the front, and some nice quiet places further up the coast in places like Cliftonville.
It's on a direct train line from London. |

Check out www.parkholidaysuk.com, and look at either Dawlish Sands ( a train service runs right alongside the beach, or Waterside, which is between Paignton and Brixham, and you should be able to get a train to Paignton.
Both of these are great caravan parks, with plenty of entertainment, pools, and a beach nearby. |

Do look up Watergate Bay in Cornwall - fabulous for all the family. Bucket and spade, or watersports or dinner at Jamie Olivers 15............. |

If you want a quiet sleepy town set back in time with a lovely beach, you can't beat Southwold in Suffolk. Unfortunately I don't think it has rail links.
Angelsey is also a great place for kids and the seas warm(ish) because of the gulf stream. And yes there are rail links to Holyhead. |

We are just back from a fabulous place - The Grange in Cannington, Somerset. There is a website if you google it. It is an old manor house converted into small, really lovely cottages - you have complete privacy, but also the use of a few communal facilities such as an indoor swimming pool, games room with table football, table tennis etc. Also set in beautiful gardens with badminton, giant chess, a secret tree house, swings, a trampoline - really lovely. It is on the Somerset coastline and nearby there are some marvellous 'off the beaten track' beaches like Dunster (sandy, great for kids) and East Qunatoxhead (stony and covered in fossils), plus a short drive along lovely countryside to the North Devon coast as well. |
