Try Billesley Manor Hotel just outside Stratford-upon-Avon. Its hidden away just off the Alcester Road inside a high walled garden. The building dates back around 1000 years and there is evidence that Shakespeare wrote at least one of his plays there. Its very atmospheric and about as far away from a Travelodge as you can get - sorry Travelodge, but its true.

The Cottage in the Wood, Malvern Wells.
Have been there a couple of times for a birthday retreat.
I think they have a web site. Right up in the Malverns, lovely walks. Go into Upton on Severn for more pubs than you can shake a stick at; there may be something on at the Three Counties Showground.
One year, beginning of March, we had to wait for snow ploughs to come and dig us out!

We always go on www.laterooms.com, search this and when we see a hotel that we fancy we google it to find their home page. We book on line direct with the hotel because it's cheaper. Laterooms try to be competitive but what they do is they claim the VAT back. Direct booking with the hotel is so much cheaper. Try it.
