i live in stevenage so my nearest airport is luton and nearest railway is stevenage, whats the cheapest way for a return to get to newcastle upon tyne ???? thanks
Not sure where the person abover got their info from, there is no flight from Luton to Newcastle.
The cheapest will be National Express
With the train you can get a return from as little as £26 if you book in advance and there will be no changes from Stevenage.
The bus for the day I checked in Feb were twice as dear and took over 8 hours with a one hour wait in Milton Keynes whilst you change.
My advice get the train and book early (upto 90 days)

Hi doll, glad your coming to Newcastle, it's a great city!
If I we're you i'd get the train to london (i'm guessing it would be cheap enough anyway if you live in stevenage), and then check out www.megabus.co.uk for coaches to newcastle, i'm going to London in January and I got my tickets for a £1!
If you need any more help pop me an email jmellors@inbox.com :)

Seriously, the cheapest way is by National Express.

The train can be very cheap (around £12 each way) if you book far enough in advance and use the National Express East Coast website to make your booking. You can get a train from Stevenage direct to Newcastle and it takes around two and a half hours.
See: www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com
The trains on this route are mostly newly refurbished and not in any sort of "state", they even have wi-fi Internet these days and a socket next to your seat to plug in your laptop or mobile.
Coach may be cheaper, but takes far longer (stopping at every little town on the way) and the ride can be hellish. My advice is to relax and "let the train take the strain" as the adverts used to say.
Katie
get the train to central station its the best way and drops you right in the city center.
Northern Spriggan
Easily using the national express, will be around 30 to 40 quid return but if you are lucky you can get a funfare for about 6 quid each way
National express is way cheaper than trains, and even better in some ways considering the state the trains are in these days
