Then you'd better define what you mean by the "old city of London". Lots of people have, quite rightly, given you details of streets in the City which have been there a long, long time.
If you're referring to what is often known as "the Square Mile" the term generally refers only to the area occupied by the original old walled city built by the Romans during the first four centuries. It was the beginning of the metropolis we know today simply as London that over the years expanded outwards from it.
The old city covered an area of roughly one square mile and was surrounded by an eighteen foot high wall and a ditch (or moat). The walls disappeared many years ago but this area, one of the major financial centres of the world, full of international banks and businesses, is still referred to as “The Square Mile” or "The City". The City Corporation, along with an annually elected Lord Mayor, administrates everything within the square mile and is totally independent of national authorities. It was founded centuries ago, and apart from the Throne of England, is the oldest governing body still in existence anywhere in the land. Their motto is: Domini dirige nos - O Lord guide us.
And there are streets in it. Gresham St, Leadenhall St, Fenchurch St, to name but a few. |

There are lots of streets in the old City of London (and lanes, and alleys and closes and thoroughfares that don't count as any of those, like High Holborn and Little Britain ...)
BUT not one single road. =D
(Lots of roads elsewhere in London but they're all outside the 'square mile' of the City)
Just one of those weird things, I guess! |

The City of London is different to London Central. Central London consists of Oxford Street etc. The City is the financial District near Bank Tube station and there are tons and tons of streets there, so many that you can hardly read the A-Z. |

Well, Bro, its impossible that there are no streets in London. Having a street is very important. If there are no street, your community will not improve. The important mails, messages, reports or any materials cannot be send without a street. A "city" without a "street" will counter big and hard problems. The City of London is one of the successful countries today that's because of use of streets. REMEMBER, there is no city that has no street. |
