Could I get a british accent?

Is there anyway I could develop a british accent without living in England. I picked it up slightly last summer while I was there but I love the accent and I wish I had it, without sounding completly fake??

I know this might sound weird but I'm in LOVE with England. I hope to live there one day

Like any language, practice makes perfect. Listen to British speakers in UK movies and TV programs. Mimic the accent as best you can, you will get there eventually. It would be easier if you came to live here as you would pick it up quicker hearing it every day. If US actors can do this then so can you. BTW, it's not weird to be in love with England, despite what others might tell you, it IS a nice place to live.

you tend to pick up any accent you are surrounded by
or live in a while...

British people will be able to tell and will likely think you're a poser... when I was there everyone wanted to hear me talk because I'm an American... I'm actually really, really good at mimicing accents and can do Oxford British, Cockney, and East Ender, as well as Irish, but people more wanted to hear my native Boston accent, or a southern accent, or something like that... always went over well at the pubs.

whoo go you!
watch loads of english films and listen to music. But try not to go OTT or it just sounds posh.
btw whats so nice about the accent?

I think you probably could. If you're trying to pick it up more, you could try watching lots of British TV shows so you're used to having it around you (I know British people who've picked up slight American/Australian accents through watching shows from these countries).

Missy Kay
Yeah why not whats your original accept? I have a strong Yorkshire accent.

nicpowel
I guess it's safe to assume you don't wanna pay for a vocal coach? :P

If not, just watch a ton of English TV shows, movies and stuff and try to mimic it.

lol, they say listen to tv shows, lol, any brit will pick it out to be fake, it takes years to lose what you already have, i have been all over and i have a number of partial accents, i'm either brit or aussie or canadian, i'm told when i go back to england that i sound like an american, i'm told here in canada i often sound aussie, and in aussie i'm told i sound like a pom ( brit) the only place i have been where they call me all three is south africa, lol
there are so many localised accents in england that you can travel 60 miles and they sound altogether differant, ask any brit, but i'm glad you do like my "native" accent, because i was born in england
