Depends whjere you want to go - Heathrow, Standsted, Gatwick and Luton airports are all around 1 hour journey time by public transport from Islington

Heathrow

London City is the nearest - but it really depends on where you are going. London City takes small planes - not the intercontinental flights. If you are going to most places, Heathrow is probably the easiest major airport to get to from Islington if you are using public transport. If you are driving then Stansted is probably just as easy. To naswer your question properly though, it would help to know where you want to go!

London City is the nearest but it does not take the biggest planes, it has lots of short haul business flights from Europe. As Islington is on the underground, then all of the other airports that have been mentioned are easy to get to. Heathrow will just be at the end of the Piccadilly line, which you can get on at Highbury Corner and change once or direct from Holloway Road, Arsenal, Finsbury Park etc...There are lots of tube stations in Islington
