I wish I could award best question!

I am from Devon and think it is one of the most outstandingly beautiful places in the world.
Some places to consider in Devon are the South Hams - Salcombe in particular - and have some Salcombe Dairy Ice cream while you are at it.
A great hotel to visit is on Burgh Island - the setting for a couple of Agatha Christie novels. The island is connected to the land at low tide and at high tide a sea tractor will drive you through the shallow water out to the island - great fun. The hotel is art deco style and very beautiful.
Topsham is a very attractive small town on the river Exe - and has a high concentration of great pubs.

In Cornwall you will definitely need to visit Padstow and Rock - while you are there hire a bike and cycle along the camel trail. There are world class restaurants in Padstow - check out Rick Stein's place.

Another fun thing to do is head to Lyme Regis on the south coast of Dorset and look for fossils on the beach. Just take a big hammer and start cracking rocks on the beach - you are almost sure to find some.

Thought I'd died and gone to Devon
Enjoy!

I used to live in Cornwall from 1998 - 2002 when I moved back to Kent. Loved it but when I returned there this year for a holiday, I found that I was bored with it. However, I can recommend the Beacon Country House hotel in St Agnes. They do take children but only over the age of 8. I cannot recommend the Penarth guest house in Perranporth as it is the pits. Honest. Perranporth itself is lovely with a fantastic beach but it does have rip tides, so beware. As for Devon I can recommend the Two Bridges Hotel on Dartmoor. Exmoor is beautiful and there is a lovely B&B in Duddleswell called the Mill House. Very good. I am quite into Dorset for exploring at the moment and am planning another holiday there next year. Just spent a week on the outskirts of Weymouth near the beautiful village of Abbotsbury. Hope this helps

Used to be a really nice hotel in Lydford (The Castle?) - it's just on the edge of Dartmoor & a very lovely village - there is a big waterfall there too, well worth a visit....

You went to Bodmin!! Bodmin's a shithole - not the most popular place with tourists.
How about the Polzeath area in North Cornwall, lovely clean beaches and lots to do near there. Other areas around Polzeath: St Minver, Rock, Wadebridge, Daymer Bay and Porthilly beach.

One of my favourite areas in Cornwall is Mousehole - not far from St. Ives and Penzance (so access to The Isles of Scilly which you can visit for a day trip). The Lobster Pot overlooking Mousehole harbour was where we stayed for our 30th wedding anniversary
Or, why not try moving up Country a little - try Dartmoor, maybe around Porlock (good old pub there which used to have accommodation, called "The Ship" - try googling to see if it still does). You can go to the resorts of Lynton & Lymouth from there.

Exmouth and/or seaton are quite nice for hotels/b+bs on the seafront! should really try it although weather is never too good, but you probaly know that

in Devon try Dartmoor, well worth a visit, climb out of Belliver woods nr Postbridge in the direction of Laughter Hole Tor and once you are a mile away, you probably wont see anyone else all day.

Or in Cornwall, why not travel the backroads of the North Coast from Say St Agnes to Bude, or in stages, you will find some quiet beaches and fantastic villages and peace and quiet, even in the holidays, if you are thorough.

Have you thought about the beautiful little county of Dorset?

No trip to Dorset is complete without a trip to The Bill....

Go on, give it a try. If you love the West Country, you'll love Dorset.

North devon is particularly nice, specially round the Bideford area. When we go there for our holidays each year, we don't stay in a hotel, but on a rather nice caravan site in Westward Ho! called Beachside Holiday Park. It is a well kept, well run site with lovely views from all vans, and all the vans are immaculately kept. Well reccommended to anybody wanting a holiday there.

I suggest you take a look at their web site at http://www.surfbayholidays.co.uk/beachside.asp
