Think any photo id will do

Margaret
They don't ask for anything, but you could take your driving licence if it puts your mind at rest.

you should be able to go there with just a driving license, although coming from France to uk, you do need a passport, i would suggest calling british customs.

You should just need an ID. I would advise calling British Airways and asking them. You will have the same rules for air or sea travel.

piccalilli
No you don't, but you may be asked for some form of photo identity, especially if you leave your car after you have checked in, e.g.. to go to the refreshment area and then return.
Having said that I have never been asked. If you do not have a passport then the next best is a driving licence. There is no requirement for a passport for travel between UK and Ireland for residents of either country.

Doesn't it depend on (a) your entry point and (b) your citizenship? Check with your government's website(s) and/or policy lists.

No passports needed but some form of ID is a good idea, although in practice you may wish to take your passport - just in case.

I have travelled many times between Cardiff and Dublin with no problems of passports or ID in fact you land at the domestic terminal in both airports.

The wiki link below explains it all.

Yes you do need a passport to visit the Republic of Ireland as it is OUTSIDE Great Britain/United Kingdom

It depends on your nationality.

UK nationals need only some form of ID.

Others need a passport, though it may not be checked.

Nationals who need a visa are responsible for ensuring proper formalities are followed, or they may have problems later.

hans2
it doesnt have to be a passport but can also be a drivers licence or something thats photo id.

You will have to have some sort of identification - passport being the best. My husband is a truck driver, and on doing a delivery in Ireland some months ago, didnt bother to take his passport - they wouldn't let him on the ferry home. Had to fax his i.d. over to the port - just think, I could have had a peaceful time at home if I'd refused!
