I think you're being naive about the current housing situation. There are families in homeless shelters & refuges that wait years for houses & flats to become available.
By all means put your name on the list but you'll be well into your thirties by the time you hear anything!!!

If you can get a council flat, then grab it with both hands and don't let go.
Unfortunately there aren't many available for single people.
Also try Housing Associations though, most cities have at least one which specialises in housing singles.
Good luck, at college too.

You will be lucky....they are usually reserved for asylum seekers.....so its halls of residence, or private landlord for most students...if you can get a council flat, then good for you.

yes, its reallllllllllllllly easy to get a council flat.
if you want a disgusting, p*ss smelling one in the middle of the redlight district.
and the good places are really there for people who have no where else to go, people who husbands hit them, or who have kids, or are homeless.
but hey, you go for it girl!

Depends where you live but getting a council flat is normally a long process , and flats and houses are given to people who cannot afford a property otherwise , I do not think that you would qualify , with the criteria you have given

I think leaving home is going to be a big eye-opener for you if you think you just "get a council flat".

Very happily married.
Your chances of getting a council flat are practically zero. You will not be offered anything if you have halls of residence available, and even if you are offered something it will be a hostel or bedsit or something.

Council waiting lists are several years long.

Which area? London? Places good for council flats are Glasgow and Tees area. Well, if you are desperate get a council flat or get a room in the college.

lol where do you stay?! it takes years to get a council house unless your an asylum seeker or are about to pop out a sprog!

Not if you want to keep your money. Theres lots of expenses with a house - council or not - rent, council tax, electricity, gas, insurance, food not to mention your entertainment budget. Get your name down on the list for a house, but I'd wait until after college to move into one.

I'm going to echo some of the other answers - but really - it is VERY VERY HARD to get a council flat. If you have been made homeless the council may - MAY - help you find a hostel or b&b place.

If you can get one do it!!! You can offer student friends to share with you and share all the costs between you.
If you can get on the property ladder it would be better, but not everyone can afford to do that when they are studying.
I would say be careful of the area though. Some places are really dodgy, so watch out and keep safe.

I think you need a couple of kids first.
