Do native British really hate foreigners so much????

No most British people do not hate foreigners - its only at the margins of society that you will find any bad feelings. the vast majority of people will be more than wlecoming, going out of their way to help.

Immigrants have made Britain into the great country it is today , everyone is grateful for
-the Irish builders who built much of London's transport infrastructure
-Jewish business people and scholars
-the German royal family who gave us queens and kings
-Polish shop keepers who have given us shops such as Marks and Spencers
-West Indian public sector workers
-Indian, Pakistani, Italian and French restaurant owners who have revolutionised British cooking
-Polish plumbers, builders and other tradepeople
-Polish and other Eastern European agricultural workers
I could go on - there are numerous other immigrants who have contributed to this country

Basically everyone in Britain is an immigrant of some kind - go back in history and there will be an immigrant background

no we dont tend to hate people who come over here to work but we do have a problem with the illeagals and those that come purely to "sponge " off of the state

nah we dont hate them but our humor is very very dis-tastefull. Look at little britain & all the jokes that come around when people die, get put in rehab, etc.

Some people are gona hate you but most will be nice to you & maybe make fun of you behind your back.

I'm quite an 'old' native Brit and I don't hate foreigners, and as far as I know neither do my friends and acquaintances. I think you might be influenced in your thinking by reading about the concern in some parts of Britain where uneducated, unskilled people settle and add to the burden on local social services. However, it should be said that without 'foreigners' the UK would find it hard to operate effectively in, for example, its National Health Service, where many doctors, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, etc., are from overseas. And in certain labour intensive tasks, foreigners feature strongly. So it isn't that foreigners are hated (except by xenophobes of the type that exist in all countries), it's more to do with a feeling that Britain is becoming overwhelmed with an almost uncontrolled influx of economic migrants. It's also difficult to ignore the fact that serious crime is a feature of some areas with high immigrant populations. However, if you are coming to Britain as a company employee I doubt if you will notice any prejudice against you since you will supporting yourself, probably live in pleasant, company supplied accommodation, have medical insurance, etc.. You are presumably a skilled and well educated person, too. Hence you are a perfect foreigner! So 'Welcome to Britain and enjoy your stay'.

Complex issue. There is a perception the immigrants steal our jobs and are responsible for crime. This is whipped up by the tabloid newspapers. Anyone with a dark skin is immediately under suspicion by some. There was an interesting programme looking for historical examples of these beliefs and they came up with a quote from the fifteenth century!!

That said, the majority of people are more sensible, and we are less prejudiced than say, the French - this is said by migrants from France. There is a need here for healthy people of working age to contribute to our social services via tax, and this country has traditionally benefited from various large scale migrations.

I live in Britain and I teach immigrants English, so not all native Britain's hate foreigners. Its just the ones that do get a lot of press.

I dont believe they hate us at all. I met a man from England 7 years ago and we fell in love and have been on here together ever since. He wants to move to the US.

My sister's just back from Europe, contradict to what you have expected, Britishmen are the most helpful & well-mannered people she had met in the whole of Europe. Don't worry, be a Roman when you are in Rome, you'll be fine there.

I am a Hindu Indian and I was born, bred and educated in London. I am 24 years old and I have never experienced racism. Although there are some racist brits, but I guess you get that in every country. UK is definately more tolerant than most European states. As long as you are well mannered, out going and have a good personality, they will love you.

I agree with the guy that said it is mainly illegals that they dislike. Especially the ones that can't speak english and cause lots of crime.

It is economic migrants that annoy me, I don't hate them. When Poland starts asking for its builders, plumbers and electricians back you must admit it is evidence that immigration figures for Eastern European economic migrants has become to high.

On the whole no - but often in the sections of the working class that feel 'disenfranchised' there is great resentment of immigrants, this is whipped up the tabloid press who frankly get away with absolute murder in this country.

In London it is not a problem so much but in the old mill towns of the north of England where unemployment and deprivation are relatively high there is definitely sometimes a problem with racial tension

My fiance is English (I'm American) and he has never shown a hatred towards most foreigners. I've spent loads of time in England and the people are quite kind to me. The only thing I've heard the Brits complain about is illegal immigrants and those who refuse to learn English. Wouldn't you be annoyed if illegal immigrants came to your country and were given public benefits that they don't deserve? It's also disgusting that people would move to England and never bother to learn the language. I don't think you'll have a problem.

This is true. It's a sad fact, but white british people do look down on people of ethnic races. People have often denied it, but it's true. The BNP (the british nationalist party - fascists) have recieved many more voters over recent years, especially in the north, where 30% are members, and this is due to the increase of ethnics working there. When I talk to friends, we always say how people should be treated equally, and although I think they should, due to the mass of foreigners here, it's hard not to, and personally I don't. Just don't worry...

You will be made welcome if you try to integrate. What we don't like is people coming into our country who expect us to change to accomodate them. Just join in where you can and keep up the English lessons - we are not always very patient if we cannot understand what you are saying. Good luck and enjoy life here!

British people do not hate immigrants, well only the uneducated ignorant ones do but they also hate educated British people and generally everyone and everything. I'm sure if you are coming here to work though you should be fortunate enough not to deal with these types of people, who can be found in every country the world over unfortunately.

Immigration to England over the last decade has increased massively due to demand for workers in virtually every industry sector and the tabloid press have played heavily on the fact that, as they see it, British people are supposed to supress their Britishness in order not to offend immigrants while every effort is made to ensure that immigrants are allowed to celebrate their own culture. This has annoyed some people but on the whole I think you will find that everyone will be friendly and welcoming as long as you make an effort to integrate into society.

We do dislike immigrants who come to live in our country and commit crimes but we also dislike those born and bred in Britain who sponge off the state and commit crimes so it is not a race thing, purely the frustration of hardworking people who fall vicitim to these criminals.

Not really but we do keep in mind that the French are our hereditary enemies and if we are at risk the wisest thing to do first is to sink their fleet.
