No not stuck up at all, just slightly patronising.
Was speaking to an American gentleman on a night out (I live in Northern Ireland) and he said that he liked coming over here as it brought him back down to earth and made him realise how lucky he was for what he had at home. I thought that was extremely offensive at the time but I'm sure there was no harm meant.
Another thing on here is some of the silly questions Americans seem to ask such as 'How many British Dollars in an American Dollar?' and 'Why can't you just start speaking in an American accent so we can understand you?' Don't help matters either. I also saw 'Do they speak English in the UK?' I hope that was a joke. =] |

I'm American and for the most part I feel we're stuck up, phony, overweight, patronizing, and undereducated. There are always good people out there but it seems they are far and few between!!!! |

Hi there, I am an American living in Scotland and I don't feel like they think I am stuck up. In a way I think people in the UK look at Americans as Brash and a bit showy sometimes. I am not afraid to speak my mind even if its something controversial and I get funny looks from some people and 'Good on Ya' from others. Also, Americans are very happy for people when they are successful and show it. In the UK (or from my experience in Scotland at least), people seem to think you are showing off if you celebrate your achievements. They talk ****! I find that so weird! Why not be happy for each other?! |

Nope!
My stereotype of an American is fat person, who is quite stupid and talks really slowly.

Generally no, although I found people in Boston condescending and rude. In contrast everyone else I met in New Hampshire were pleasant, friendly and welcoming. I will never return to Boston where even shop assistants act as though they're doing you a favour by serving you. |

in general and I can't speak for Ireland NO.
most Americans have excellent manners but if we were to try an find any faults it may? be they are a tad too outgoing ( noisy) and don't always like to queue.
overall though most folk over here find Americans agreeable, friendly and are happy to engage in conversation with them at any time. |

No not everyone, only bigots. I always treat people as I find them, I go to Florida, not where the tourists go, every year form the UK and have always found them very friendly and with the exception of a few, not over the top. The fat problem does not exist in the main, that is a thing of the older generation. Our shop workers could learn an awful lot if they were to experience the way the Floridians treat their customers. Long Live America |
