It's OK I guess but things are getting to me. The UK government are getting things wrong I mean I could do a better job than them. They're not doing anything right and seem to get paid a lot of money for doing very little. These gangs and 'chavs' or whatever are going around London killing people I mean this year along at least 2 people a month have been killed in this so called gang warfare crap...2 per month is terrible that's like one every 15 days and the government/police don't seem to be doing enough about it. Also the cost of living isn't good either. Housing prices are at an all time high and the cost of fuel for the car is over the top! Shopping for food is also bad I mean butter is up something like 32% or something stupid which again doesn't help.
I guess this explains why my parents are apparently planning to move to Italy in their retirement. Although I don't want to move because I have family and friends here in England (I live in London) I might have to seriously consider it if things get worse here.
Still, we get some lovely weather at times. If you're going to come to England -- just take note that exchange rates are still high so your $200 might only get you say £100 which isn't good. |

We have a police force that doesn't carry guns as a matter of course,[and when they do,it's invariably due to non-English threats of terrorism]. We have castles,a free health service, manners,a monarch that mingles with her population, regional dialects,a built-in humour, cathedrals, shakespeare, radio and tv stations that don't have adverts every 20 seconds, cricket, rugby, silly customs like cheese-rolling,mud-races on new-years day,shin-kicking championships,morris-dancing,natural rock-band talents,brass-band contests, the best football premiership on the planet, the university boat-race,devon cream teas, free dental care, national parks of great unspoilt beauty, village fetes,jumble-sales,wellies,people riding horses in country lanes, inventive comedians,HUGE national pride without beracistcist,a royal family,train-spotters,the ability to laugh at ourselves, and our greatest national treasure-the M25! Yep,it's a gift,to be born English. |

Q. first: Why do you have the Union Flag on your Avatar if you live in the US?
A. I've lived here for over 70 years which should answer your question and I do have experience of the rest of the World since I've circumnavigated 4 times. If I were World Dictator, I might insist that the weather be a little more pleasant than this past summer, but in spite of that, I would never live permanently anywhere else. Maybe an over-wintering small apartment in Madeira, but that's just a day dream. |

Love It! I live in North East England, the people are so friendly, even in the cities, people have time to say hi usually, and everyones really approachable - unless your begging for money for charity - we're not the richest people you know! |
