Yes it certainly keeps crime down and the little thugs think twice before doing it again. When I see elderly people on the news who have been beaten by little prats who think they can get away with a slap on the wrist from the police IF they are ever caught, I know what I would like to do with them!
The paramilitaries usually have more knowledge of the crimes going on that the police and can deal with it in a way that makes sure they don't do it again. If you were told that the next time you were going to do something wrong that you might lose your kneecaps, would you do it? I don't think I would!! |

I believe that there are some offences/offenders for which it would be appropriate. |

NO! Violence does not solve anything. It only creates a cycle of violence. |

No. When did beating someone stop unwanted behaviour? it leads to public humiliation and resentment and can only serve to inflame the situation. |
|

No, simply because I've seen punishment beatings handed out to someone whose only crime is their religion or the fact that they don't get along with a particular individual or family.
Of course publicly they have gotten it for theft or some other unproven misdemeanour. |

Yes indeed. Less things would happen if that was the case! |

Absolutely |

Well the English system of letting criminals get away with everything and then practically penalising the victim doesn't seem to work so maybe a good hard kick up the jacksy and a smack around the head might make the criminals think twice. |

Why do people feel the need for punishment beatings? Is it because they can't trust the police to do their job?
No - it's wrong, wrong wrong. |

In prison, many attract the "punishment" you ask about. The trick is to send them to prison. However, the victim should have the right of killing someone who commits a crime of violence and not be prosecuted because killing the criminal was the only way to survive. Too many times the one defending themselves is the one who is arrested and the criminal is able to convince society they are the innocent victim. Tazers (spelling) should be more wide spread than guns. |

Yes but it depends who does the beating. If a community is being troubled by persistent yobs and the police cannot or will not apprehend them, and their parents do nothing to keep them off the streets, I would not object if a couple of peed off guys in my community beat seven bells of c**p out of them. If, on the other hand, the job was done by even bigger criminals then I would object. I am also in favour of "naming and shaming" what is wrong with "humiliating" law-breakers? That is one of the reasons why criminal activity is rising, there is no longer any shame attached. |

errr, NO! but then again im not a barbarian!!!
this is the 21st century, there are other proven methods of punishment, if you beat a person they will then beat another, its a cyclic process. |

YES I DO!!!... |

Absolutely. Violence is the only language young people know these days.
If you introduced punishment beatings, you could guarantee they'd think twice before doing it again. |

Who is the judge? The law is there for all people to follow...
I can understand some peoples frustration with the lack of police action but this does not mean they can also break the law... |

If you commit crime and get caught then you pay the price, If you can,t do the time don't do the crime!!!!!!!!!!! |

Yeah definitely !!! I I also think that women should be routinely stoned just in case they look at some bloke the wrong way. Children should be given regular bouts of child abuse to remind them of what's coming if they dont say please and thank you and gingers should have their hair burned off.
I strongly believe that liberal namby pambys should be executed using a small dull penknife. They just dont think the way we do do they ??? |

Of course not....but having said that you don't have as many problems with anti social behaviour, twoc or drugs being sold on the streets in Belfast do you..... |

No, it doesn't matter what the crime is it just doesn't feel right. |

yes, but with one very big proviso. When i was at school in the 50's/60's we had male teachers who took an absolute delight in beating boys. The way they went about it and the zeal was nothing short of being a fetish! They were worse than the pupils being punished. The decent teachers caned boys dressed, the creeps caned them with bare bottoms - what a feeling of power that must have given them - actually not much different to a Catholic priest who used to ocassionally visit our church! Sicko's!
Those inflicting the beatings would have to be very carefully vetted in order to stop the paedophiles being hired! |

No what kind of message does this send out to other countries the people who 'met' out these punishments are no angels themselves |

No for they usually carried out by bullies and cowards. |

beating doesn´t make people think about their mistakes, it makes them feel angrier! it just makes things worse I guess!
I remember when I was a little kid, my parents never layed one finger on me when I did something wrong, they just had me grounded! it made me think about the mistakes I did !
it was worse for me than beating! they used to send me to my room with no TV, no toys, just me, my bed, and the walls! |

No, beating is not the correction method to be used... however they can't be just counselled and sent away they have to be made to realised |
