Yes - and it is said of London that you are never more than six feet away from a rat.
Rats can swim. They swim in the River Thames, they swim down the sewers and they will come up into the houses if they can.
I'm not saying that London is a rat infested dump, but, like any large city, it's got rats.
Rats and Pigeons
The rats in present-day london are brown rats [rattus norvegicus), which didn't
arrive here ... Rats are beneath your feet in the old London sewer tunnels. ...

I've never seen any rats in London but I've seen lots of the teeny mice scampering about the tracks on the Underground. Always makes the tourists yelp and point! |

Well I'm not an exterminator. You usually generally only see rats when they're not well as they hide away from humans. I've seen a couple near a railway track in Croydon and one on a tube platform but that's it really. I used to work in an old building on the Strand where we had traps laid down - they use poison mixed with blue coloured peanut butter! Never saw any dead ones though. |

It is said that int he UK you're never more than 70 ft away from a rat. I think that is cnsiderably less in London. Had an infestation of them in my flat (the council were digging up the sewers in the street) but have seen surprisingly few in my time otherwise. |
