Do you like the part of England you live in ?

I am an ex-pat living in Canada and want to come back there and live in England. I wanted to get some details on the different regions / cities. What better way to find that than to ask the people that live there. Don't try to turn me off comming back because that is impossible.

I live in Crouch End, north London, it's the best part of the best city in the world! If not London, then beautiful seaside counties like Dorset, Devon and Cornwall take some beating. And don't rule out the Isle of Wight, off the south coast - a great little island but just a few minutes from the mainland by ferry.

I live in Manchester, and it's a great city to live in. Heaving with culture and still the possibility of a cheap pint!

I also love it because it's the hub to everywhere we need to go: Liverpool, Leeds, Blackpool, and all the little places in between :-) And it's only 2.5 hours to London on the train!

Also, people are a lot friendlier up here than they are down South. I've lived in both and can honestly say that's a fact!

I live in the North of England, in the country and i love living here. the people are friendly and we all help each other out...As for the Southern part of England ummm well...no more said.

Haha, wahey! Erm I'm from Derbyshire (Chesterfield if I'm being precise). Chsterfield is nothing special but I do like it here because of the places it is close to! Not far from Sheffield and also close to nice little villages and countryside so get the best of both worlds here :-)

i live in the south east. originally from the north. i find people are more friendly in the north east & yorkshire area. they have lots of beautiful countryside, but we have London. It depends what you want to get out of living here, its more expensive living down in the south. Overall i'd recommend the north, great people who seem a lot happier.

I live on the Kent/South London border [It's in a London borough, with a Bromley,Kent postcode, quite confusing].
It's nice and quiet, but close enough to shopping malls etc. so it doesn't feel as if you're living in the middle of nowhere.

My husband and I hate the town that we live in, although the area (North east) has some lovely towns and villages just a shame about ours that's all. If you were considering the North East, Durham is lovely.

THe Isle of Purbeck in Dorset is wonderful but you will need a big bank balance to buy a home here. - think central London prices but with great countryside and no gangs. If you like sea and countryside give it a go. - You can get on the housing ladder for about £280,000

Well, it's pretty crappy all over.

The Midlands does it for me. The best communications networks, best motorway network so everywhere is accessible, loads of international airports locally. Choice of easy to reach cities for jobs and shopping. Loads of attractions and stuff to do.

The downsides, well, the obvious is that its quite built up, volume of traffic and no decent fooball teams !!

If you don't live in Southall, then you don't know what you're missing out on!

Hi, I live near Oxford which is pretty nice. 'Charlbury'. Its right out in country, but only 10 miles from Oxford city centre, and only 1 and a half hours from London, which is pretty cool. So you get the best of both...country and quite, yet towns and cities are very close by.

I live in Drighlington, West Yorkshire.

A very nice area, only a couple of hours drive to any kind of landscape views, seaside resorts, busy shopping centres, relaxing countryside, you name it, it is here in Yorkshire.

By the way, when I say a couple of hours drive, that is the most you have to travel, most locations can be found withing half an hour or less.

You would be most welcome here, maybe see you soon ?

Good luck.

I live in Bristol. A city in the south west of England. I like it.

I live in Wiltshire. Love it. I'd choose a market town - not too big, not to small. Good sense of community.
Good luck and I don't blame you for wanting to come back.

im from chester but now live in manchester

chester is a small but beautiful roman city, good if youre 30 and over

but im young and so i much prefer manchester - a big, confident city, with great nightlife

forget birmingham, id say manchester is the UKs 2nd city - its got almost everything london has - and some things that london hasnt - but is much easier to get around and is much better value for money

just ask tony wilson RIP
