You won't pass through passport control for an internal flight anywhere in the UK, but you will pass through security control.
Most airlines now require adequate photographic identification before they'll let you on board for internal flights. This could be a driving licence or a passport or some will accept a Student Union card or Photo Railcard.
The airline itself will usually state on the ticket, or receipt, what forms of ID are acceptable. |

I'm not sure whether you've realised but England and Scotland are within the same country. Accordingly, there is no immigration control to check your passport. As such, your friend will not need his passport for immigration purposes because there will be no immigration checks.
Your friend will, however, require a valid identification to board the plane. He should speak to t he airline as to what they will take as valid identification. |

You do not go through passport control travelling from England to Scotland, BUT, many airlines require current photographic evidence of identity before you even get near a plane |

No - it's a domestic journey within the UK. If you are flying the airline may need photographic identity. |

did that person actually say England and Scotland are the same country? What the heck?
Anyway, I don't think you need a passport because you're still traveling within the UK, it's a good idea if you have one to bring it anyway though for ID purposes. |
