Do you plan to emigrate from the UK at any point?

How many people do you know that are thinking of leaving the UK to live somewhere else? Do you know anyone that already lives elsewhere and is happier?

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0831/p01s03-woeu.html

I've never thought of it, but it's true. We are a bunch of miserable people, and I think that is why so many people leave! There's always something wrong, something to complain about, especially the NHS! However, how many other countries have a free health service?

How can we change the nation? Cheer up people, be content, be happy, be proud! =oD

Joan el guiri, I think you got the wrong idea - I'm saying that all I ever hear about the NHS is bad, which doesn't seem to make sense since we don't have to pay. I know we are taxed more than we should be people, but a lot of money does go here. It's just a shame that a lot of injuries are alcohol related...

Just give me the chance n I'm off. I am sick of the bunch of idiots that are "running" this country. We get taxed on earnings, taxed on savings, taxed on inheritance, taxed when we take a dump!!!

Hello indeed,
I'm Italian and live in Italy.I also lived in the UK for a while and it has been a great experience. It was quite upsetting and hard when I had to come back to Italy, but on the other hand I was missing something from my country.I just think that anywhere there's something good and bad.
All in all I've come to this conclusion: it's not important where you are but rather how you feel with yourself and consequently with the others.
Greetings from Italy!!

I think I would, except I have a child who is just about to move up to the secondary school, so I dont want to upset that.
I know personally of maybe 4 couples who have emigrated. None regret it. In fact, they wish they had done it years ago! One couple went to Canada, the rest to Spain.
Why do I want to do it? Well, as a nation, we are taxed TO DEATH. Housing is super expensive, but rises to new levels of insanity in most cities. Our rights and voice is slowly and craftily being withdrawn from us. The NHS is neglected. Our manufacturing infastructure has been SOLD OFF over the last 20 or 30 years by traitorous politicians. Life as a Euro sub state becons, So I firmly believe that a better and happier standard of life is available to most Brits elsewhere - even if they took a world map, closed their eyes, and stuck a pin in a random area of it.

Hi,

I live in Egypt and i have lived here for 7 years. The things that i don't miss is the violence and robbings, we do get here as well but not on the scale that you get it in the U.K. you even have to lock your car when you pay for your petrol, which i couldn't believe. Also when i go home you have to even lock your car when it is on the drive of your house, my car has been unlocked for 4 years. I have started locking my car now as i live where there are lots of tourists and it is these that i don't trust. When we need the Dr we pay here it has cost me £10 to go to the Obstetrician and he is a professor and trained in the U.K. this price also included a scan. The normal Dr to see is from about £4 per visit and then the next visit will be free. This is to go private you can go to the poor hospital and see them there. Although people think that because i live here i swim all day and don't work. I do the same that you do, laundry shopping, cleaning the house (only i also have to do battle with the dessert and most of the time it wins)!! The difference is that i do all this in the sun and sometimes it gets up to 45 degrees. But we have air con to cope with this and then in Dec/Jan we have radiators as the temp drops. The grass is always greener on the other side.

my dad came to italy 20 years ago, met my mum and he's still here.
u know what? a lot of people complain about their country and would like to go somewhere else...id like to get out of italy as soon as possible!
u asked about a free health service? u surely wont find it in italy!11€ every time u go to the hospital! aaaa!
think twice if u really want to leave the uk! ;-)

We all moan because the British want a better future and arnt prepared to put up with crap, If somethings wrong then we have to change it.
Ive just got back from a year in Australia, if i could go back there and work there now i would. But saying that the uk has a great many different cultures, whatever your into you can usualy find it without having to go to far out of the way.
In Aussie, Melbournes a bit like that but most the coutry your as far away from scotland as the Isle of Wight is before you can find the nearest signs of civilzation.
Coming back here is crap, it so grey, no one says hello to each other or "howz it goin' mate" in the street or when out and about and the pay is **** here and everything cost more here!! British people work all week long and have no time or money to live life.
Think i would love to leave the uk!
Need to find that perfect country, does it exsist ;)

This is the greatest country in the world. I'll never leave it to live any where else.

I emigrated about 10 years ago. I've lived in Finland, Cyprus, Japan, Hong Kong, South of France, Czech Republic, Slovakia.

Hibee
More people are leaving than ever before, only because more people have enough money to leave than ever before. And where did they make all this money?

No chance.... why would you want to?

I would if I was younger and wouldn't have to leave my family behind. This is an overcrowded island. I long for the country we had in the fiftees and sixties, but it will never happen.

Yes i plan to leave as soon as my education is over.

And i'd say around 60% of people i know - would love to move elsewhere.

Yes there are worse countries....... but come on?! People need to stop sticking their heads in the sand - this country is a DISASTER. It's never going to change...it's only going to get worse. There's no way i'm going to stick around. I plan to leave whilst i still can.

I own an apartment in Portugal, and have considered retiring there, but I have really really come to loathe the Portugese people, they are so nasty, and yet us Brits get slated for being rude and miserable.I challenge anyone to go into a Portugese supermarket, and be treated like a Human being, instead, they will look at you like you are something they trod in, and they throw your change at you.ESPECIALLY the women. I have had occasions when I have been verbally abused, as they assume we all do not know the language, when in fact I speak fluent Portugese. I have decided enough is enough, and I am selling up, and staying in my gorgeous Cornish village, where everyone is friendly. I have even stopped going abroad for holidays, as Britain is very lovely in parts, and far more hospitable than anywhere else I have ever travelled.I for one have come to realise that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
I don't lock my car, or my house, there is no crime or violence where I live, and I have never had a problem with our health service. You don't have to move abroad to find somewhere nice to liveI live in a gorgeous part of England, and you can keep abroad.

Joan el guiri
How dare you criticise our NHS. It is the envy of the world and number 17 in world ratings. This means that 16 countries are better so we must not be the envy of 16 nations but they are all anti English and foreign anyway.
If you continue like this You may end up like Dr Kelly.

p.s. I left in September!
