If it's a stinky burger or kebab or something, yes. Otherwise, no. |

No. What annoys me more is people putting their feet up on the seats and having their music on very loud. |

It depends what you are eating. Something that is going to stink the carriage out is not going to be appreciated. But a sandwich is OK I should think.
Personally I like to start with a lobster bisque, followed with a freshly prepared smoked salmon mouse and seasonal vegetables with an light sorbet to finish. |

Smelly people with smelly foods in such a confined space get on my fork'n nerves! |

It depends what you're eating and how much space you have in which to eat it. If you're sat down it's less of a problem - if you're standing in the doorway crammed in like sardines, then I'd think it unlikely you'd have room to eat!
Crisps and apples are noisy, biscuits and cakes leave crumbs everywhere, anything which requires cutlery of some description is just complicated, and most hot food will have some sort of aroma. Anything fish, whether hot or cold, should be avoided at all costs. Many forms of fruit are very juicy and should not be eaten for etiquette reasons, or just in case you dribble juice down your front. Same goes for anything with pips or stones (ie cherries) as you'll have to spit them out.
So that pretty much leaves you with sandwiches and bananas!
I did once see a man trying to drink hot soup on a tube - how he didn't spill it everywhere is a mystery..... |

Yes it should be banned - in Hong Kong it is illegal and it is so clean you could eat your dinner off it and risk being fined, also no weird smells either. |

Yes, the tube is always too crowded, so eating anything invades other people's personal space. Save it for when you get off. |

if it is smelly, then yes. Or if you leave rubbish behind or make a mess then yes it is rude - it makes other people feel uncomfortable. If its just something non-smelly and you take your rubbish away with you, then no its not rude. |

Most definately - particularly during the rush hour. If you can't find time to sit, relax and enjoy your food in comfort why bother to eat at all ? Eating on the underground - to be avoided at all costs. |

No, I don't see why, though obviously a 3 course meal might be taking it a bit far.
If I'm hungry, I'll eat. If I offend anyone by doing this, they should get a grip and find some perspective on what is actually important.
Personally the thought of someone in rush hour with a hot cup of coffee offends me more (I see this every morning). Smells I can deal with, burns I cannot. |

When it comes to food, as far as i'm concerned it is anytime, anyplace, anywhere, even the Tube. |

I wouldn't consider it rude particularly as long as you don't eat like an animal and start dropping things and making a mess - remember to take any rubbish with you. Also, It depends what it is and how geasy/hot/smelly it is! I most definitely consider it annoying though when people eat on public transport!! |

Happymissus

Yes it is rude, although sometimes a necessity because noone seems to have anytime anymore. Maybe we should all make more time for ourselves to eat to travel to enjoy life. Lets all slow the pace down. |

from one point its rude, but i do munch sandwiches sometimes on tube journeys, lack of time i suppose. |

No, but I do think it rude when people stare or drool. You just can't enjoy eating anywhere nowadays !! - Laugh |

Nope like other ppl have said only if its a smelly kebab or something then it is,we pay for the services so we should be able to eat on there, |

Not only is it rude inconsiderate and extremely unattractive, it could positively endanger your health! A recent examination of hand holds etc showed that they had the body oils of at least 14 people on each site swabbed. These people had not washed their hands after urinating and defecating. Colds and flu are spread by touching mucous membranes with contaminated hands etc. as well as other viral and bacterial infections.
So if in doubt, DON'T!! |

no not at all its public transport and i emphasise the word "public" - therefore if people do not like it buy a car or use another method of transport!!
However, if its a stinky smelly food id proberbly give you a dirty look he he |

I cannot imagine anyone wanting to eat in a stuffy, sweat & body odour laden environment. They must be masochists! |

Personally, I actually feel rather embarrassed about eating in public. I don't want everybody watching me eating. No matter how hungry I am, I'd always wait until after I got off the tube or the bus. |

I think it's not only rude but, it is disgusting, and those who eat in the London's transports should pay a fee. |

I was stuck on a train with a woman eating sushi and the smell made me want to blow chunks, i think it's okay if your food isn't stinky then it's just plain rude. |

no I don't but the way people bang on about it and the posts on here I can see why people take their cars!!!!!!! |

Yes, but if you want at least one carriage where nobody will be eating anything, then give us back the smoking carriage ..... noone will eat there. |
