Not for the next 5 years at least because Labour are out at the next election and the Tories will never replace the pound. |

I hope not !
Part of my British Identity is the pound ! I'd hate it if we ditched it in favour of the Euro ! |

other countries use the Euro coz they havent got enough famous people to put on their currency.
The UK has a surplus of famous people so we have no need for the Euro. |

Not in the immediate future. To do so now would be political dynamite. In the very long term - yes. |

We have to be seperate from something dont we? England llikes being its own country. The Euro would make us to common. |

If the exchange rate drops to €1 = £1 then I can see it happening. However, it's probably more likely in the long run that other countries will abolish the Euro and go back to their own currencies. |

I think they won't but its something they must consider if our economy gets any worse.
LOL @ michael - Ireland already has euros!!
IT 50/50 I THINK THERE ARE POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES
Positives - Europe may be able to pull through the crisis better if we were together, being ripped off less by commission company's and holidaymakers as you don't need to change to euros
Negatives - Our overall wealth will go down probably due to sharing finances with poorer country's, change all systems/prices/processes/services will be long and daunting process.
Realistically I don't think we'll ever be a country who joins the euro. |
|

No name.

I doubt it. Most people in England don't want the Euro and some countries that have changed, such as Spain, regret changing to the Euro. |

Most unlikely. Why go backwards. The Euro is useless and used by sheep. |

With the track record of this present Government (change for the sake of change) ANYTHING is possible. I think this may be a step too far for them however. |

Yes watch the news. Very soon since Britain was so low the Euro was higher than the pound a few weeks ago 84p-1 euro now is higher 1.18p but with people losing out with their pensions and benefits in Europe The government is re-thinking the Euro. since they will change their banks and that will put pressure on the UK banking system just ask how many Brits live outside the UK and are in trouble with the pound being so weak. If they have to come back since they lose their homes, just think of the pressure on the UK economy? much easier for the long term if Britain is in the Euro zone shame for losing the pound yes. I would hate to see it go, but i think it will happen soon |

No, because their own money is worth more than Euros. |

If the Pound were to drop in value to be equal to the euro then there would be a lot of pressure for the UK to adopt it.
Long term it's probably inevitable. The decision can only be made once and there will be no going back.
Even longer term will be the merging of all currencies worldwide. Would that be a bad thing? |

No, I certainly hope not.
Why are there so many questions about this today?? Is there something I don't know |

England has to use whichever currency the UK decides on. |

NO - a large proportion of English people do NOT and will NOT acknowlede the Euro. |

The pound is stronger than the Euro so its touch and go. Maybe eventually after pressure from the EU |

Britain should have joined the Euro when it first started!
The exchange rate was brilliant at that time and Britain would have been competing on a level playing field.
As it is, the exchange rate has collapsed, which is great for all the Euro nations who want to visit or do business with Britain, but terrible for anyone in Britain who wants to visit, or do business with any country in Euro land.
Quite apart from anything else, if Britain had been in there at the start, then the Euro would have been so strong that the Euro would have replaced the mighty dollar as the global trade currency.
By the way, Ireland already uses Euro :-) |
