Travelling interstate for me was a regular thing on my own..I would only travel during the daylight hours, and make sure I was booked into a motel by 4pm...It is only safe to do that now, if you have a car or travel means that wont break down for any reason..
Sadly, I am too old and do not feel safe on my own anymore when travelling, i miss it very much...but a factor could also be a health one..............good travelling, whatever you decide.......... |

Well, Yes . if you firstly feel comfortable going away alone go for it. I'm fairly in-dependant myself but i still like some company however at the same time i still like to be alone some times (excuse the oxymoron) and there is a Difference between being lonely and alone don't forget that .
You also have to watch out for crime and stuff why don't you check the crime rates and just exactly what your up against( if anything) the foreign and commonwealth office can help you with this ( {www.fco.gov.uk} for hints for safety ) (and the most remote of places can have higher crime rates. and for the busy tourist spots most crimes are committed by tourists themselves .
Also follow you instincts where possible and for whatever country you are travelling to make sure you have the nearest British embassy and/or consulate details with you (as important as your passport) (www.britishembassy.gov.uk) to get hold of these details will take 1 min and will be well worth it in case anything goes wrong .the embassy and or consulate can help you with various things you'll be impressed

Yes, it is ok, I've done it many times and will again.
However, there are some disadvantages:
1)You usually pay more as there are single room supplements.
2)You may feel lonely, particularly at dinner etc. It helps if you like doing crosswords or reading books.
3)It's possible that you might be at risk. Be careful where you go, who you talk to and how you behave.
4)If you get ill, even with a simple upset tummy, it can make you feel miserable if you're on your own.
Plan carefully. Pack lots of little treats. Enjoy! |

Yes it is totally ok. My Great Aunty travelled around the world on her own and she lived to 99. Maybe travelling is the secret to a long life. And hey, you might meet someone while your away. Go for it.
Cocolocococ, are you kidding, Asia would have to be one of the most dangerous countries for a woman travelling alone. When we went to malaysia all we heard from the sleazy men were 'australian women' and other mutterings. I would carry a knife or tazer if I were you. |

I suggest having a friend nearby. First a woman traveling alone attracts the attention of predatory men. In a strange place you might not feel so bold when an unsavory character approaches. With all the violence happening in the world I don't generally trust being alone... but that's just my opinion. |

I've never been on a holiday on my own, but I'm one of those people that doesn't feel very comfortable being on my own in an unfamiliar place.
There's nothing wrong with wanting some me-time, I'm sure holidays alone can be really relaxing if it's your thing.
Just beware that you don't go to one of those holiday destinations where people go just to get off with someone. I don't think that they would be the safest of places for a lady on her own! |

I've often been on holiday on my own and have found that it enabled me to meet far more people than when I have been accompanied. There are obvious drawbacks and I learned that wearing dark glasses was a good means of avoiding eye contact in countries where men can be a pest. I don't like eating in restaurants on my own, but you are quite likely to team up with other people in one way or another if you are travelling as part of a group. If you find yourself in a situation where you are eating out alone away from the comfort zone of your hotel, then it is a good idea to carry a book with you and read it if you find that you are attracting too much interest from unwelcome sources. But why anticipate trouble when you may encounter none at all? Looking back on my solo travelling in the Indian Ocean countries and in Europe, I honestly have no unpleasant memories to speak of and many, many happy ones. The only snag is, you have nobody with whom to reminisce afterwards! |

If you kept in touch constntly with someone. Let the hotel know if you trust. Although you can lock yourself inside.
Never travel showing suitcases, keep in trunk. Cell phone constantly. Stay within nice places even if it cost more. like valet or so. Ask if where you are going if there is a buddy system where people go sight seeiing or whatever it is you want to do. Keep in touch constantly with friends frequently and almost constantly.
I always knew where I was going and it was 300 miles so I did not need to stop to go the bathroom.
However, be sure it is well publicly noticed, pull up close, watch watch and be especially careful of your surroundings as well
keeping doors locked and immediately when entering.

I am so leary of women now a days and it is so sad we cannot have a life we want when we want it. But there are sick people out there.
However I also believe if you are extremely careful and something happens that you did not bring on, then it is God's will and there is nothing you can do. He aready knows what you are going to do.

Go for it! Just remember to stay safe - money in your bra, passport safely tucked away. You might want to start small - a weekend a hundred miles away in a b&b, then a week in a nice city in your home country. Then you could do a week in a resort city like Cancun. Have fun! |

To be honest, in this day and age, I don't think its that easy for a women to go anywhere on her own let alone a Holiday on her own, it all depends where you are thinking of going I suppose, and how independant you are, on the moral side of things, I don't see why you shouldn't go on your own, its a dog eat dog world out there, and as long as you feel comfortable with it, then go for it girl, but one thing is for certain, you make sure you are careful, don't go off with anyone you feel uncomfortable with etc..but then again your a sensible women and you already know that don't you. In all, what ever you decide, you have a good time. |

They should be able to travel alone, but then a lot of things in life are unfair.
The risks are just too great.
Predators migrate to Holiday destinations and look out for exactly this type of thing. Even making friends with the staff at the hotel can scare these b*stards off, but in my view it's just too risky.
Bearing in mind that some of these people are hotel staff.
My Fiancee spend a 2 day stopover in Hawaii alone, on her way to see friends in LA. I nearly lost my mind. But then I had explained to her what not to do. I phoned her about 3 times a day for those two days.
