Do you think the monarchy is valuable to the UK what about other euro countries like spain and holland?

Is the monarchy worth keeping or should we chop their heads of like the french did?
What would the UKbe like without it?

Or how can the royal family play a better role?

???????

no they should all go.

Mr Tinkles
They are a bunch of time wasters. Millions of pounds of taxpayers money spent so they live in luxury and have nice holidays. Wtf does the Queen actually do? The richest woman in the world and she does nothing. Maybe she should use some of that "hard earned" money and help the needy.
Charles had the best looking Woman ever in Princess Diana, and what does he do...he shags some old horse face trout instead....so tell me. why do we need royalty?...we don't.

I think the monarchy is a good thing, simply because it separates politics from 'pomp and ceremony.'

out of all the tourists who come to britain how many see the royalty if a man is married to diana and has an affair with camilla hes not fit to be a king

The biggest argument in favour of retaining the Monarchy is the American Presidential Election race. Look what happenned the last two times. The US head of state is a total jerk, yet the Americans actually ELECTED him!!!!!!!
At least we don't get blamed for electing ours!

As to the role of the monarchy, they are Patrons of almost every charity (could you see a President doing that?), perfect hosts to foreign dignitaries (unlike Blair, Prescott etc), and when Charles is King, the family won't even be drawing an income from the Civil List, as he gets all his income from his estate (AND pays tax!)

I really don't mind paying my 67p PER YEAR to keep them.

Yes the royals do cost a lot of money, but they bring millions of pounds into the uk because everyone still loves to see the queen
altough we should cut down on some of the hangers on.all you anti royalists would soon change your tune if the queen invited you to one of her garden parties you would be soon creeping up her backside.

Im english and proud and long live the royals... And no im not rich.

mrsgavanrossem
I think that we've been very lucky in the present Queen and in her predecessor, and it's interesting to reflect on the fact that they both achieved their position through accident - i.e. the abdication of Edward VIII, who would have been a disaster. You can go back a little earlier and make an argument that if the first son of Edward VII had survived (he was a basket case) then we wouldn't have had George V, who at least did no harm (or not much).

So my own personal view is muddled. Almost certainly this country has been better off over the past 60 years by having a committed, politically neutral, hard-working person invested with powers that one wouldn't have wanted to see exercised by people who had to put themselves up for regular re-election - not just because of the crowd-pleasing aspects, but because of the continuity of institutional memory. But the institution of monarchy as part of the constitution doesn't guarantee that we'll continue to get this kind of service, and that would worry me a lot.

Difficult, but them's me sentiments.

Yuri
If a modern Monarchy (Constitutional) exercises its (representative) role as it should, it's invaluable. It (supposed to) stands above al political quarrels and has an unifying role, binding all segments in society, something political parties can never dream of. It makes people proud of their centuries long heritage and it's the best PR a nation can have. Yes, it's not cheap, but what about the costs of political campaigns, especially in the US?
Also, very important, it's (supposed to) less likely to get influenced by special interest groups

It can happen that some Royal members are more laid back and less involved in 'scandals' (Dutch, Belgium, Danish) than others (British). In the end, they're all human beings, aren't they?

Consider this:
All great nations were european and at the time they were great were all pure monarchies.
3 of the greatest:
England
France
Spain
All were monarchies all are not now, the brit one is just for show and has no real power, now they all are 2nd rate nations. In the case of the french, distant 3rd.
IMO, all of them should return to pure monarchies.

racquel
It is impossible to end the British monarchy because God has sworn that a descendant of David will always be on the throne, and an active throne will be in operation when Jesus returns to rule the earth.

Deb P
Of course the monarchy is worth keeping! They raise millions every year for charity. Do any of their detractors honestly believe that we would get so much tourism without Lizzie Windsor and her clan? Tourism is one of the biggest injections into our economy every single year. We no longer spend millions on all the hangers on that we used to spend. Our nation is Great Britain because of our heritage and the world still is interested in that and that is why we should keep our greatest marketing tool.
RULE BRITANNIA!

Radio Ga Ga 73
We should have a republic!!!!
