On one hand, I think it would make a lot of sense for us to use the same currency as our neighbours, it is a pain having to change money when going to France, Spain, Ireland etc- as a lot of us Brits do on a regular basis. But then on the other hand, it would feel like a slight loss of identity. I think for a lot of people it's a question of us becoming slightly more 'continental' European, I don't have an issue with this, but I can understand that others do (but I don't really know why...). For me, the biggest negative is the potential opportunity for shops and services to benefit at the expense of the consumer at the time of the change-over, there were many reports in Ireland and France of goods and services being 'rounded-up' in the conversion, making many items more expensive without the consumer realising. |

No I most certainly do not.
To be tied to a bunch of countries that only the EU controls would be the daftest thing this country ever does and we would soon all seriously regret it. Britain has one of the strongest and most influential currencies in the world, why on earth would we want to chop that in for a 2nd rate one ? ... Makes no sense to me.
Sorry, had to laugh at Hibee, you are so wrong ... I suggest he research's what happened to other countries after they joined the Euro daftness on an economic scale. |

NO! because to go to 3rd world countries you have to change your pounds...if you change euros you get less than what you get for pounds.. equals less shopping money...
okay i was joking with that... But honestly the quids in our pockets are something we are known for. The brits are known to have their own metric system and own english so why not own currency? Isnt it a shame for such an independent country to ride on with the rest of the bandwagon? Yap it is so no way for the euros... |

No, we have to keep something original to our country. |

Schools of thought abound, so perhaps another angle from me?
Britain and the Pound Sterling are synonymous and have been recognised for centuries. The currency is widely accepted throughout the world. Yes, I have spent £'s all over Europe and the USA. Remember, there are tourists coming into this country too.
The Government, Bless them, said there would be no room for the Euro until there was a stability and it compared favourably with the £ Sterling and I agree with them.
The exchange rate currently does not make the money in our pockets any more and if we moved to the Euro, shops and the rest of the billing industry would have to change too, making an horrendous job and the devaluation a major problem.
Stay with the Pound Sterling!!! |

Absolutely NOT...to do so would be the end of our independence from the unelected official dictators in Brussels...and Strasbourg...I say Brussels and Strasbourg because the little darlings waste our money every few months or so packing up shop and moving everything lock, stock and barrel between the two because they couldn't make their minds up which place to have the permanent headquarters...and just who pays for this lunacy.....why me and you out of our taxes of course! |

I live in Spain and if we all had the euro it would be so much easier. To transfer money to UK or vice versa costs a lot. Also travelling through France is easy until we get to the ferry. |

Change the currency over and then we can get rid of these useless people in the bank that say, "would you like a receipt?". and then you have to pay them a £2 or £3 fee for them changing your currency, utter nonsense.
JUST CHANGE IT PLEASE!! |

For me, yes, I want UK to change its currency to the euro, bec. UK's surrounded by countries that already uses the euro: Ireland, France, Belgium, etc. It's such a hassle to change your money from pounds to euros everytime, but I think the British would like to keep their own unique heritage; maybe that's why they don't wanna go into that transition |

Yes definitely.
A national currency is outdated in the EU these days.
Plus I'll be able to come home from Lux where I live and work and use the same currency with no problems...
And it will help business, and everyone who goes on holiday to Europe will benefit..
It can't come soon enough for me!
