The entire set is in an old film 'lot' in Elstree, just north of London. The exteriors are all nothing much more than brick-faced false fronted erections and the interiors are obviously all done in proper studio settings. The railway bridge is a good mock-up of a typical outer London "Underground" type of bridge complete with well-copied cabling and that signal. The tube station ("Walford East") exterior could have been copied from practically any of the original "London Electric Railways" but the interior, although going UP to the platforms is modelled on Maida Vale station (which goes DOWN to the trains!). Any time you actually see a train passing over the bridge it is a computer simulation. The buses on that strangely revised route 15 are hired from "Sullivan Buses" (NOT London Buses) and although in the past when the buses were actually hired from London Transport they were of the correct type in use at that time, the ones seen on that route nowadays are not only out of character but completely unsuitable for such a busy route.
The "lot" is adjacent to some real houses in Elstree, and these can clearly be seen in any of the outdoor scenes.

Of course it does!
So does chain-smoking Dot and forever-crying Sonia.
So does red-faced Phil and spoilt brat Ben.
So does stroppy Darren and gold-digger Dawn.

I swear if Carly screws up her face once more and the wind changes, it'll stay like that forever - that'll serve her right for acting so OTT..... oh! What am I talking about? She's not acting, she's real too!

Yes, and the people are real too. It's not a soap opera it's actually a documentary. How could it not be real?

PATRICIA L
No you idiot! Its fiction on telly and its called a soap opera. This is so we know its fiction and not fact.

Oh god I hope not........all that misery and bickering. Living in the pub and cafe, no regular families, murder and mayhem .....I have asked this question already and the people on this site assured me it was not real..........I dunno tho..........maybe!

Albert Square is fictional, im sure there are many over birtian however. Eastenders is filmed in studios in elstree, at Borehamwood studios. Programmes such a s Holby City are also filmed here - if you go onto google each you can actually see albert square.

david f
No, but there really is a Coronation Street in Salford!

ray k
yes it does the original Albert square is just behind the made up one they built an exact clone i saw it on eastenders revealed on BBC three

the Jamster
Hi Huni, Ok Yes Albert Square does exist that is why u see it on the tele it is a real set in a television studio in Elstree in Hertfordshire which is nowhere near the E20 area of london. In the sameway the tube station isnt really called Walford, the market isnt real the allotments are real but the rest is make believe. Good luck darlin, and next time i;m in the eastend i'll say hi to peggy for ok darlin.
Bye

I'm sure there are Albert Squares all over the place but the Square you see on EastEnders is just an outdoor set in Elstree All the houses are just wooden fronts and the milk bottles are full of white paint. The gardens in the centre are real but they are tiny.

Camaro
Theres one in Stockwell, SE London
