Does anybody hate/fear London? And why?

Seems to me that everybody I've met who lives outside London has a deep hatred/fear of the Big City. Why is this?

I live in London, and i can see why it's a little scary for people from outside. For instance, there are a lot more different races living in London than elsewhere, and if you're not used to it, it can seem quite intimidating. Also, people here are very rude, and keep to themselves, no where near as welcming as when I have to other places, esp. up north. Also, if you're driving, and you're not used to it, it can be a big shock. To get anywhere you have to throw your manners out of the window, else you'll be stuck at the same junction for a whole day! However, I like it, and people don't get beaten up and stabbed regularly. There are a few random victims, and I feel sorry for them, but most of them are out there doing the same thing, so it leaves us civilised people out of it.

I lived in London for three years and didn't really have an opinion. Now I've moved back home for a year, to the smallest most inbred rural backwater dump imaginable, and I've realised what an amazing place it is, and can't wait to move back there.

Oh Crud!

london is a great city, it has great architecture, fabulous theatre, its fast, full of life and great people. its one of the most cultural places in the world. however its overcrowded, dirty and extremely overpriced. i lived there for 15 years. nothing is very far away there, what ever you feel like doing (apart from lying on a beach or skiiing obviously) is within easy access. i love it, and i hate it for the few above reasons, but i would never fear it. you can get shot, mugged or blown up anywhere, london is no worse or better than anywhere else for that.

People fear the unknown. London is safer that most cities in Britain as its so busy.

Hate of London, yes, smelly, overcrowdy, rude, disgusting, unclean, smog ridden, horrible place. Hatred, no. Fear, no,

Glad to live in the South East in the green belt.

I personally do not like to live in London, it is a great city with no doubt, but I prefer to commute every day from the SW. The reason I do this is because of the house prices, you can get a twice as much more footage for the same money.

I don't live in London and like going up there - probably go 6/9 times a year.

Sometimes I get worried on the tube if it's late, but then you just have to be careful.

sleepygo
hahaha, gangs and shooting lol jk jk

but apart from that, it is a nice place, espeically the central of london.

i been outside london as well and people do seem to hate it, to be honest i dont know why.

if it is crime then maybe, but isnt crime everywhere? people tell you not to go outside, its just the same here.

the crime level is just like anywhere eles in the country.

Hi,

I don't live in London but I love visiting, I try and go every three months.

London is like many major cities, it has its fantastic parts and it has its not so nice parts.

I love London as it is diverse and so much to offer. I have never had any bad experiences in London.

'Er indoors!!
As someone who comes from the Countryside, I have to say I loathe London. I was up there for a funeral at the weekend, and I was petrified. I guess I'm just not streetwise. We took our dog up with us, and I took him out before I went to bed, as I do every night in Cornwall, and as I turned down an alleyway, I was met by a gang of youths smoking dope, and shooting up. I had never seen anyone take heroin before, and have never felt frightened of walking around late at night, in Cornwall, so you can imagine, I just couldn't wait to get home to peace, and normality, to the tiny Cornish village with no street lights, mains gas, yobs, drugs, litter, sirens, pollution, drunks, weirdo's. London??? NOT FOR ME THANKS.

I don't fear London exactly and there are many things I like such as the museums, art galleries, parks and restaurants, but London is also a deeply unpleasant place, in that generally people are hard, aggressive and generally obnoxious; crime and anti social behaviour increasingly affects most Londoners too

i don't like people from london coz alot of them are stupid and don't evan know what a duck looks like. and i also hate going to london because every time i go my snot is black with all the polution

Katie
In London everybody hates everybody. In the underground pretty much everybody you see would trample on their own grandmothers in order to get to work on time, reach the targets, fondle with their secretary etc etc.

aarifah S
i do like london but

VK
Because I went to London once. It didn't seem to me that it was an English city. With no offense to English people, it seem to me that it was more of a city in the middle east.

Well, said Alberto
Most Londoners are pretty clueless about the rest of the country, so that doesn't always impress people.
