Does anyone have any pointless, but interesting facts about Liverpool?

I am fascinated by the history that Liverpool has. I live in Liverpool and I think that you should enquire about your home city! As I am a proud scouser; I would like to promote the city's many facts! Any facts would be a great help. Thank you

The last act of the American Civil war took place on the river Mersey when the last confederate raider surrendered to the Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

Liverpool was the only city to have a Confederate Embassy (in Falkner Square)

Im a scouser hears one for you ,

the clock on the liver building was started at 1.40pm on the 22nd january1940, the exact moment that king george v was crowned in westminster abbey.

I am fascinated of liverpools history aswell.

The wooden arch in Chinatown was handmade in Shanghai. Liverpool is home to Britain's oldest Chinese community, and the largest Chinese community outside of China! In terms of population it is our 5th largest city, after London, Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield. Goodison park is around 70 metres above sea level. The word "scouse" refers to the local rustic dish, a stew of beefmince and vegetables. The city is 800 years old this year. Liverpool is twinned with Cologne in Germany. The population has halved in 70 years. The Roman Catholic Cathedral contains the largest stained glass panel in the world. The railway from Liverpool to London was the first to be electrified. Liverpool may soon have trams, last seen in the city in the 1950s. Prime Minister Harold Wilson's seat was in Liverpool, and the longest serving PM ever was LORD Liverpool. Cherie Blair's dad, TV's "Scouse Git" is from Liverpool, along with Leonard Rossiter and Kenny Everett. Are these trivial enough?

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine founded in 1898 was the World's first institution devoted primarily to tropical health.

Liverpool has more grade listed buildings than any other city in Britain except London.

This is not pointless but very true,I'm married to a scoucer-I wanted to marry LIVERPOOL,but LIVERPOOL was spoken for by every scoucer,so I had to settle for just a scoucer.

The actual pool that the city is named after was where the Birkenhead tunnel entrance is now.

Charles Dickens was a regular visitor to the city and stayed at the Adelphi hotel.
The river used to come up to where the St Nicks church is now.

Cherie Blair was once the honorary Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.
Brian May and Stephen Parry have been awarded honorary degrees at the university also. Brian for his contribution toward astronomy and Stephen for recognition of his service to sport.

Liverpool/Speke airport was officially opened back in July 1933, then renamed John Lennon airport by Yoko Ono in July 2001. It is the first airport in the UK to be named after somebody and the logo/strapline "above us only sky" comes from John's song "Imagine".

Pointless but interesting to some.

Hitler was a student at Liverpool Uni.

The landscape architect who designed Central Park in New York (Frederick Law Olmsted) used the same plans but on a smaller scale for one of the parks in Liverpool. Sefton Park maybe??

I might have got my wires crossed on that second fact but it's definitley something like that.
