Does anyone know if Scotland uses the metric sysyem or what's used in America.?

I am from America & was wondering what they used in Scotland.
Additional Details
If a man weighed 200 American pounds, what would he be in Scotland? I found alot of good answers but still find it a little hard to understand.

In general the metric system is used in Scotland.

There are exceptions, road and rail distances are show in miles, fuel consumption is usually quoted in miles per gallon. Speed limits are in miles per hour.

Don't forget that UK gallons are larger than US gallons.

However, we buy petrol (gasoline) in litres.

The official system of measurements is "metric".. For example, gasoline (petrol) is sold by the liter (litre). However, many people in the UK remain familiar with the English system of miles, gallons, etc.

Schools in Scotland went over to teaching the metric system in the late 60s early seventies. The teaching of the Imperial system stopped then.

The use of the old system is supported by the BBC who seem to think that the change still has to be explained.

We still have to use the old system where , for example, a replacement door is to be 3 feet wide or using whitworth nuts and bolts.

The US system is different from Imperial in many ways. For example you use AF screws, we use/d whitworth and a US gallon is smaller than our gallon as I found out when I filled a 5 US gallon petrol / gas tank!

We used to use Scots miles in Scotland. I don't know when that stopped but I have seen an old mile stone in Scots and English miles.

I still find difficulty in buying carpeting 3 metres wide by the foot!

Theres a bit of a mix of systems. Officially we use the metric system, but many people will still use the old system. For example, I usually weigh things in ounces when cooking, but food is labelled in grams.

Scotland like the rest of the UK is in Europe so we use the metric system! Apart from that is buying drinks in pints and half pints, measuring distances in miles and talking about our weight in stone and err probably one or two other things where the Imperial system lives on.

200 lbs is 90.7 kilos most people would say it in stones, the old imperial measure 14st 3lbs
When I was shopping in Florida last year I noticed clothes and shoe sizes were different. We still use imperial measurements for waist, hips and chest sizes here.
Didn't realize how confusing our weights and measures were until you pointed it out!!!

We're taught Metric, buy food and fuel in metric but speed limits and distance measurements are still in miles.

You get the occasional direction sign to points of interest in metres.

For body weight, we use stones and pounds (lbs), and there are 14 pounds in a stone.

Weighing food is done in either grams and kilograms or ounces and pounds.

Human height is done in feet and inches. Measuring of other things is done in either feet and inches or centimetres and metres.

Petrol is bought in litres. It's about 96p/litre at the moment.

I think the USA is the last country stuck in the past. ~
