Seen as you've asked this question in the UK section I guess you must mean 788 as a UK area code.
If that's the case then it's a mobile (cell phone) number. In the UK all mobile numbers start with a 7.
In the past it was the code for the town of Rugby in Warwickshire but a few years ago all landline numbers were prefixed with a 1 or 2. 788 was the code for Rugby but it's now been changed to 1788. |

Southeast Louisiana has an area code: 985. (Sorry not clear about that) 788 is a prefix in that area code. Are you sure it's an area code? |

If you mean a Country Area Code, 788 is for Thailand... I don't think it is an existing area code within the U.S. |
