Yes it does rain.
The average across the whole of England is about 36 inches a year - it seems a lot more than that because we have a lot of light rain - drizzle.
The place with the most rainfall in England is at a place called Seathwaite with an average annual rainfall of 98 inches. Surprise surprise it's in a region called the Lake District National Park.
It's all because we have predominantly southwest airflow over the country which brings all the moisture off the Atlantic. |

The thing about England is that it's almost the definition of a temperate climate - it very rarely has extremes of weather.
So yes, it rains a lot of the time - but usually it's showers or drizzle, you only get heavy storms occasionally. Similarly, it gets quite cold in winter, but not too much, and even when it snows you rarely get massive amounts. |

What makes it feel that it rains a lot in England is that we don't have a monsoon season and get all our rain in a few months, but can have rain at any time of the year.
Where I live, in one of the wetter parts of the UK, on average there is some rain half the days of the year, but that includes all the days with nothing more than a brief shower. |

Yes it can rain on a regular basis, but England can get good weather too. We never know what to expect, but we don' get extremes like some countries do.
Anyway there is much more to our country than the weather.
Is that all your friend could tell you?

A fair amount. In autumn it's supoosed to rain a lot (when the seasons are in synch). Not all the time.

Been chucking it down all this morning (in Worcestershire) - the sun looks as though it's trying to break through at the moment.
Lovely sunny day yesterday - managed to cut the grass which was "a mile high" (must be all that water) and emerald green. |

Yes, and Scotland and Wales....there are areas on the east coast which get little rain...most of the rain comes from the atlantic ocean...so the west coasts are wetter than the east...but believe it or not we do get droughts here now and again. |

Today it rained, then the sun came out, rained, sun came out, rained etc. All my flower seeds should grow nice now. It always smells nice and fresh.
There's water everywhere and I'm told there's a water shortage and they keep putting up the water bills because they don't want to update leaking pipes. |
