No need for a passport to fly domestically within the UK. However, he will need some form of identification, preferably photo id, to get on board the plane. Check with the airline. |

You might need to let the airline know before you fly that your son has a disability. Some of the airlines are really bad with that and have been known to charge people extra. I know Ryanair ask you to let them know before you fly. (They used to be one of the worst offenders on disability rights, not sure if that's changed or not.) Check your airlines website to see what ID you might need to fly internally |

If you mean you are flying across the UK then all you need is photographic proof of identity. |

OK, let me get this straight in my head. You live in the UK, your son was born in the UK and you wish to travel on holiday within the UK? Well, if that's the case YOU DO NOT NEED A PASSPORT. If you live in a country you can move around it without a passport. If you are really worried, ring the Passport Office (google them and find the phone number) and ask them. To fly all you need is proof of who your son is with his photo. |

You definitely need to inform the airline - the reason why they sometimes say no if from the number of people already travelling who might have mobility issues or use wheelchairs. The company insurance limits the numbers of people on board in a wheel chair.
In terms of ID - if he has a passport - then take it. If he doesnt' have a passport, then check with the airline again. School ID (if he has any) might be sufficient. Everyone needs ID to get on a plane, regardless of where they are from, or where they are going. I needed to use my passport to get from London to Newcastle - my colleague used her work badge. It needs to be something with a photo and name on it. |

He shoudnt need one if he is just travelling only within the UK. However, he may need some form of ID to board the plane.
I would suggest that with the recent problems at airports, if he has one, to bring it, if he doesnt, to check with the carriers.
Also, make sure that you inform the carrier that your son is disabled and they will ensure that adequate provisions are in place....

What country do you people live in? Passports are for people traveling outside the UK. This not Russia or Saudi Arabia where internal passports are required. BUT, saying that, with the current security level some form of ID would be required to travel by air and a passport is the most common form of picture ID for a minor. |
