Does the UK hate the United States? |
I'm not saying the whole country in general, because I know there are many many good people out there that don't.
But, I'm American, and I sometimes hear or see some lovely Britian's talking smack about us.
Especially, when I go to a theme park here in Florida, they always talk about how much better London is than Orlando or something.
I thought that if you're visiting another country, you must respect the country, not go and boast and compare yours to ours.
It's confusing and I really want to travel to London because there is such rich history and architecture over there. |

I thought every country hated the US....
Apart from the people who want to to go to Disneyland...Yes...not the people individually, but the country and their foreign policies..never mind ..the economies crashing and their veiled hopes of being a modern Empire will fail soon...they'll pick on one country too many...maybe one that'll fight back...rant over...you'll be OK going to London. |

Your paranoid.
Why should The British hate you. I've been to US a few times, and never heard anyone Brits slagging you off.
The US is one of the top destinations for The UK holidaymakers and considering the distance,it wouldn't be if we didn't like it |

Its not the American people I hate but American politics and politicians. American foreign policy has been responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent people over the past 50 years and now Britain has been persuaded to participate in the monstrous nonsense in Iraq. quite apart from the cost of lives the monetary costs are being felt here now with the government making huge cuts to expenditure on public services and the salaries of those who work in them. |

" not go and boast and compare yours (country) to ours" - I found that quite interesting because all we ever hear from Americans is how everything is so much bigger and better in America than it is here.
Worst of all, I used to live in Rome, often visited Florence and was appaled at some of the philestinistic comments coming mainly from the mouths of Americans, those who think they can "do" Europe in 2-3 weeks. That does not do justice to our history or to our heritage and culture!
Like you, I know that not all Americans are guilty of this - it just seems that whenever a disparaging remark is made, it's done so in an American accent! |

To be honest, the British don't really hate anyone, we just like to moan about things, America just has a lot of power and a lot of media coverage so USA is often in coversation. |

If I ever visit the USA I would like to chat with the original people that lived there, not the colonialists, that were sent there: The Red Man.
And when I visit Australia I would want to speak to an Aboriginal person |

I live in Edinburgh in Scotland that every August has one of the biggest cultural festivals. I used to work in a shop on the main street and the number of annoying customers we had during this time was terrible. Quite alot of the time they were American. I don't have anything against America or Americans but I think that when some people go on holiday they become idiots no matter where they are from. I'm sure plenty of people would say the same about tourists. And I think thats where the bad impressions come from. When I was on holiday in the summer we went on a Communism tour in Prague and there was this older American couple in the group who just made weird communist jokes the whole time and talked about how great americans were and that we'd all be talking russian/german if it wasn't for them. But I know not all Americans are like that.
And I'd like to travel to the USA one day to meet some of them.
ps and I was watching American Princess (the funniest programme ever!) and there was one girl who went to a Brittish pub and was screaming 'I'm an American' over and over. That can't help the image of Americans too much either. |
