I am not a Ned, nor a person that "sponges" from others for a living. Either be it through the dole, or the so called extra 10 billion Scotland gets.
The recent Polls show that the number of Scottish people wishing for Independence is at a low at 31% - with over 20% undecided. It is however important to say that the SNP are now enjoying a 48% approval rate in the Polls.
Unfortunately the Unionist Parties in Holyrood are simply to scared to back the SNP plans for a referendum on Full independence, be it as a part of a 2 part referendum (i.e. Do you want Full Independence Or Do toy want more powers for Holyrood, with the Union) or just the one question.
The SNP have just published their White Paper, out linging that they would settle for a 2 part question, this does not fair well with the Lib Dems/Labour/Tory opponents.
What bugs me is that the 3 "Unionist parties" believes that All their voters follow every last one of their policies, including a No to Independence - I am sure this is not the case.
I do not quite understand why the libs /labours/tory parties oppose the idea to full independence for a referendum, do they not trust the public to vote their way? Surely if they keep saying "Scotland doesn't want independence" they it will come true...?

If you believe that it is just Neds that want independence and you are in favour of the Union, they you have little to fear - Neds do not usually do the "politics thing" and vote., and that includes Polls.

The most the SNP and a pro independent public can hope for is the SNP will get in bed with the Lib Dems and pass powers over taxes, broadcasting, elections, etc. the Tory Party is in favour for more powers, along with Labour but they do not want any more major powers, other than fiscal autonomy, which is huge for a Devolved Government!

Will vote Aye on a referendum for more powers.
Would vote Aye on independent but that, for now looks unlikely in the current "political climate."

I am neither a ned or a doley, but I want Scotish independence. Explain your logic to me please?

Angel....don't worry this "Jock" will if only to get away from comments like yours.

I'm not a ned and i'm in favour of it.

It annoys me when ignorant english people say they are supporting scotland with their taxes - they are not!

My main reason for wanting it is economical - the SNP plan to use our oil money (from which we have not benefitted from due to it going into a national fund) to set up an investment for the future so that within a few years, the interest on the saving plan is bringing in more money than the oil itself - Norway did this and it has been very successful for a country that is a similar size to our own.

english guy 1985
well actually plenty of the ENGLISH do !!

want it or not basically - it will happen in time anyway, I'd bet my house on there being no UK in 20 years time

wasnt that what Braveheart was about?

The majority of Scots voted for parties supporting the union. The SNP does not have an overall majority. I say put it to a referendum, reject it, and then there is no need to ask the question again at least for a generation.

James P
As the SNP is a minority government (i.e. won much fewer than half the seats in the Scottish Parliament), and all the other parties oppose independence, then probably not at present.
Of course, if and when there is a referendum, opinions may have changed by then.

kyleovuk
i say they get rid of scotland, wales and england and just make it one whole country like france or spain and where scotland is just say north britain and where england is say central and south britain, i think it would solve alot of problems why dont we all just call each other british instead of scottish and english and welsh. i mean we are all one country any way.

also if scotland became independant britain would lose most if not all of its world influence that would be tragic. Any one remember the british empire, the empire what was created through scots and englsih and welsh and irish, in WW2 all of us fort against the nazi germany and still today our military is made up of all the constitute countries.

I'm Scottish but the last thing I want in independence. That would just increase the whole anti english thing that there is up here in Scotland.

BIG D
Not even the Scots know the answer.
They have never been asked. !!

But 'Independant States' in a modern world is an anachronism, surely ?

Angel
I wish Scotland would get it's independence, and so do a lot of other English tax payers, please you jocks vote for it.

give it to them anyway. That'll show them for not appreciating us. I'd like to see how the people react when they suddenly don't have the English and Welsh tax payers money to sponge off.
