In most offices that means for men maybe a polo shirt or a shirt with collar, trousers not jeans. Shoes not trainers, no sportswear.

Similar sort of stuff for the women. You can always find one person in any office who dresses every day in a three piece suit and one of his thirty or forty silk ties, but you don't have to emulate this man. He is sucking up to get into management. Dress down days are a way of giving staff a perk without giving them any money. People wear jeans into work and think it is a big deal.. The management get to see what is written on their T-shirts and form their prejudices accordingly.

Normal appropriate work attire Monday to Thursday and jeans on Friday. If you are not high up in the firm I doubt you will need to wear suits. Wear something smart on your first day to make a good impression, check out what everyone else wears and they decide.

Were do you come from? Smart casual is normally a smart blouse, skirt/trousers shoes etc Dress down friday does as it says, basically clothes youd wear to relax at home, a jumper, jeans, trainers etc

mean no jeans or shorts, no trainers (as in sport shoes) shirts with sleeves, basically what you would wear for a interview. you can adapt your style after you get comfortable...

It's a bit of all things to all people. Don't tum up in jeans ever.
A blouse and skirt a little on the conservative side until you know the score. Have you met the people you will be working with, if so how were they dressed. ask if they can spare a few minutes so that you can meet them and then you would have an idea. It is a very difficult question to answer because what is smart casual to one can be something less on the other. I think I would err towards the more formal until you have tested the water. The last thing you want to do is turn up with a skirt 15 centimetres above your and a neck line somewhere near your navel with high heel shoes and fish net stockings. It would get you noticed alright but it would take a lot of living down .

smart casual means you don't need to ware a business suit but be presentable, dress down Fridays is usually relaxed about dress but not over the top

dress down is basically wereing what you were everyday ie jeans or a skirt and a top but still looking smart
Smart casual is like wearing trousers and a smart jumper it mainly you have to feel comfortable and look approachable but still be buisnness like

The only time I was at work with only a swimming costume on was when I worked as a life guard at a swimming pool..

There are some people around here that I would like to see in just a swimming costume,
but most look much better with their clothes on.

Smart Casual means that women can wear almost any kind of clothing, ( pants, dress, skirt, ) but no denim and no swimming costumes, whereas dress down means that you can go to work without panties on certain days.

smart casual - work trousers/ skirt and shirt or plain t-shirt - almost interview quality

dress down - jeans are allowed as are patterned t-shirts as long as they are approiate
