I would be very sad. I am very proud to be British and of our nation the United Kingdom. All the consituent parts contribute to the success of the country as a whole. Split into smaller nations there would be 3 weaker nations that would struggle to survive economically. And you've not mentioned Northern Ireland. What happens to them?
No there wouldn't be rioting in the streets, since in the main British people are rational and civilised. |

I'd say good luck to them if that's what they wanted. |

I wouldn't give two hoots! So long as you didn't need a passport to move between the two (like Ireland) then I'm sure it wouldn't make much difference. |

I'd be amused. Declaring independance without legislation would be an act of treason.
(There is little hatred for the Scots by the English and vice versa. There are a few twisted malcontents who see a flag and use it to prop up their own failings.) |

Obviously Wales and Scotland would both join the Euro and start to prosper as independent member-states of the European Union whereas silly old Daily Mail-reading England will delude itself that sticking with the Pound and being a contemptible lickspittle to the United States is the "independent" and "sovereign" way to go!
Most English would become economic migrants and move to other E.U. countries (including Wales and Scotland) for a better quality of life, better health service, etc.
Incidentally, the rump of the fragmented British Army to be the English Army, would be a sad spectacle.
The Scots, The Welsh, Northern Irish and Northerners* are allheavily over-represented in the British armed forces. If they all left England's army would be a laughable rabble of Essex yobs commanded by a few chinless toffs.
*Well you don't think we'd put up with being pushed around and kept poor by London any more do you! |

To James R
WHEN did we get the chance to vote on independance?
NEVER.
Enland ALWAYS blocks any attempt of the Scots to regain our independence.
GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT BEFORE STICKING YOUR OAR IN. |

If we could get rid of politics this silly business would not arise. It is not the people of the world who are concerned about boundaries and power, it is the politicians and power seekers, who have torn the world apart and caused billions of deaths in their struggle to be top dogs.
The German people did not want to invade Poland nor did they want to bomb England or slaughter Jews. It was the politicians who caused it, just as the politicians and religious leaders are still engineering the killing of millions so that they can become more powerful.

And YOU will finance it and maybe be slaughtered too. |

I would care. I am used to living in a united kingdom. I have lived in Scotland and really liked the Scots I met there. I also have a Welsh daughter-in-law and have been welcomed into her extended family. I think, as we are all part of a block of land, we should stay united. |

Being fair, if Scotland and Wales were independent countries they would have a chose as to whether or not they wanted to join the EEC. I am quite happy for both countries to choose.
The thing that annoys me about Scotland is the way the Scots' Parliament or at least some of their MPs seem (in my mind that is) to have brided the English Parliament in to giving them more money which in turn means they get better health-care and a better education system. They did this by suggesting that Scotand should be independent of England, doing this when we get a Scot PM, namely Tony Blair, now ofcouse Gorden Brown (also a Scot). If Scotland did go independent during Blair's premiership then Blair would no longer be PM, he would have lost his job, which is a reason to pay them off.
I understand I could well be wrong, I don't feel as though I am wrong. |

Why ask such a question when you know what sort of ridiculous answers it'll throw up. I've not read any yet, but I have a sneaking suspicion it'll be choc full of the usual Xenophobic comments & inaccurate remarks based on tatty tabloid journalism & BBC London. Why would there be rioting in Kent? Why would people burn the Serbian embassy? Ridiculous & unnecessary is how I would describe your question...sorry! |

Right now, I would be glad to see the back of those two parasite whinging fcukwit countries.
They wouldn't last 2 weeks on their own, then we English could invade them again just for the fun of it. |

No more pissed-up scots begging off you in the streets,no more ignorant welsh tossers trying to talk "welsh" as soon as you walk in a pub, english M.P.`s deciding what should be law in England. Where's the problem? Let them declare independece. Why the hell should we,English, bother any more with those retards. As a footnote,i live in Chester which borders north wales. We still have a by-law which states..."Any welshman still within the walls( Chester is a walled city) after 7p.m ,can be shot with a bow and arrow. |

The English people could not care less, it's just the UK Government, headed by yes you have guessed it, a Scot, Gordon Brown.
England should be independent to,
But we should send all Scottish MPs back to where they belong Scotland, they have lived in England long enough.
Gordon Brown is ruining England, by trying to break England up into regions, Why?
He never utters the word England, and just want us all to be British.
Scottish MPs should not vote on English only matters. |

The question is more about filling the M25 up with water, calling it a moat, and London declaring it as a country separate from the rest of us.
Honestly, London couldn't care less about the rest of the country and it's arrogance stinks right through government, the londoncentric bbc, newsmedia, etc etc. I'd love to be independant from london. |

No...that's what they want...that's what they have been fighting for for years. As long as my tax money doesn't have to subsidise them anymore go for it! |

The sooner the better really. I visited Scotland not so long ago & could not believe how racist the place was.
Worst thing is my dad is scottish & I have six scottish uncles who I like very much. But if I am out & about in certain areas open my mouth well the abuse I have had just for having an english accent. |

They had their chances to vote on it. |

as per Guy's answer. Most Scots hate the english. and vice versa. The divide would be celebrated in Scotland and probably lamented in England.
The reasons being, the english dominated Scotland, drained its resources, banned its national dress, its culture, its music. What they gave back in return is virtually non-existant. They have all but destroyed the gaelic language and gave a good attempt at destroying many other aspects of our culture.
Its all well and good for them to whine about how hated the english are in Scotland but when it comes down to it, they milk our country when it suits them and are just as quick to rubbish us when it makes them look good.
Its fine with me if Hadrian's wall gets rebuilt. They are so ready to take cash from our oil industry and plough it into their failing economy. Its kind of pathetic and parasitic. |
