Hello Jessica M
The main London stations are: (going clockwise, starting north-west-ish)
Paddington (for trains going west towards Bristol and Wales)
Euston (for Rugby,Birmingham, Manchester and Scotland)
St Pancras (used to be for due-north trains towards the Midlands, but recently has become the London end of the Cross-Channel-Rail-Link)
Kings Cross (for the north-east coast mainline through Doncaster, Leeds and Scotland)
Liverpool Street (for East Anglia)
Fenchurch Street (commuter line due east to Southend)
and now south of the river
London Bridge (again, a commuter line into Kent)
Waterloo ( for trains towards the south coast), and lastly
Victoria Station, for south and south-westerly trains.

All the main cities have their own railway station, usually taking the city's name, or occasionally, where there is more than one station, having a unique name eg Machester Piccadilly and Manchester Central.

Hope this helps!
John.

carina
rail stations that are gateways to Europe would presumably be the new Eurostar terminal at St Pancras (previously it was the Eurostar at Waterloo), also Ashford International, and the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone (where you can take your car through the tunnel)

you might want to add on rail stations at ferry ports like Dover

Robert D
Paddington in London.

funmbi
kings cross st pancreas. Its also an internatioal train station.

SK
There are ten major British Rail train stations in London. Each one serves trains going in different directions, so which station you use depends on where you're going. The stations are:

Paddington Station
Victoria Station
Euston Station
King's Cross Station
St. Pancras Street Station (across the street from King's Cross)
Liverpool Street Station
Waterloo Station
Charing Cross Station
London Bridge Station
Cannon Street Station

Also, here's a map that shows where they are:
http://www.thereareplaces.com/Guidebook/pdest/London/London%20map_London%20Train%20Stations.htm

For your project, you might want to know that the Eurostar connecting Great Britain to continental Europe (Paris and Brussels) stops at St. Pancras Station, which is the international station in London.

Angel
The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland,

Do you mean all of the UK?

Paul
I remember doing this. If it's for the Gateways to the UK, we had to do the Eurostar terminals only, which are London St Pancras and Ashford that you can easily fit on a map.

There's also loads more stations such as London Waterloo, London Kings Cross, Leeds, Edinburgh Waverley, Manchester Piccadilly, Birmingham New Street & Glasgow Central to name but a few!

Hibee
Edinburgh Waverley.

Glasgow Central.

Birmingham New Street has direct trains to more stations than any other.
Manchester Piccadilly
Manchester Victoria (not so busy)
Liverpool Lime Street
York
Bristol Temple Meads

You can find a list of the major train station in the UK at this page

If you need official data on station usage, you can look at
