Hellothere

Edinburgh depressing?

Edinburgh is stunning;y beautiful. That cannot be disputed.
But there is something strangely dark and deathly about the place.
It's not a good place for the mood. A survey established it's residents as the most miserable in the UK. It also has some rich people who seem to do bugger all. It has a strange, strange vibe.

What do you think, Edinburgh locals and othere?
Additional Details
See, I think thats a myth about misery in the south/London. It's just emotional reserve.

Like most places Edinburgh is great when the sun is shining and everybody is happy and smiling, but I defy anyone, anywhere, not to be miserable when there is a cold wind howling up your trouser leg and the rain is pelting horizontally straight into your face.
I have lived in a few cities in the UK, Belfast, Portsmouth, Edinburgh mainly, and a few others but in the main I think it depends on the weather, if it's good, the city is great. If it's bad, you wish you were somewhere else.

On a good day Edinburgh is very beautiful. Trouble is, the weather is so bad up there that good days don't come around very often, which can make the place seem cold and grey. It's very touristy too which doesn't help

I have spent at least a decade in each of Edinburgh, Glasgow, London.

You can't beat Londoners for coldness and misery.

I just went to Edinburgh and I don't think it's that depressing. It definitely has a dark past, and it seems like a very mysterious place sometimes. but I thought the people were very nice and they didn't seem too miserable to me.

Edinburgh is a great place to be and if you think there is a dark mood about the place you are obviously not going to the right places in Edinburgh..

Lord fluzz
I don't find it depressing, but i would give anything to stay there because im stuck in Kent. :(

It's the weather.
In winter the sun rises at 10.30 and it sets at 4.30 on a rare sunny day.
Noboby smiles in winter to avoid slpitting their frozen lower lip.

It is also pretty miserable during the summer university holidays.

Otherwise it's a great place especially if you are young.

I live in Edinburgh and I love it !
Right now the weather has been pretty good - lots of sun and blue skies!

There are LOADS of buses going into the amazing city centre where all the shops are.

And as for the mystery part...well theres Edinburgh Dungeons which is awesome, Mary Kings Close- scarrrry! and theres loads of other random underground tours.

Generally, I think Edinburgh is awesome and there are a lot of friendly people here but then again you do get that business person you acciendently bump into and they give you a dirty look >.<

Hope this helps !

I can see where you are coming from. Edinburgh is beautiful but I think the dark grey colour of the buildings can make you seem slightly down. And maybe the weather, like much of the UK it always seems to be under a constant cover of rain!! That can make me depressed.
But whatever I think Edinburgh is stunning!!

Edinburgh is a truly beautiful city, I live in Edinburgh and I am born and bred here and I am so protective over it, some people are rubbish and miserable and ruin the beauty that is true, It seems to bring me down sometimes, but i have also lived in Essex and no one smiles at you that you see every morning on the train or even acknowledges you for that matter. Hence the rushes in princes street the people are ace.

Edinburgh has a dark past with all the under ground tunnels and Witch hunting's etc. But the only thing that is pi$$ing us all just now is the tram works in Princes Street.

As for all the other drab faces they will be Hibs fans and you can't be happy with a bunch of ***** like that.

Why not consider moving to another country seek the sun somewhere else i.e. Australia.

Edinburgh has a dark & secret history. Read all about it here.

http://edinburghsdarkside.blogspot.com/

Nowadays it is an established modern, clean city with the best standard of living in the UK.

I find Manchester, Liverpool & Dundee depressing but love Edinburgh.
