England, Ireland, or Scotland? |
I would like to move to one of these countries - I'm here in the US of A, and I don't like it here. I dream of moving to Europe. All of my family is over there - I'm very Irish and Scottish. My mother is trying to tell me nasty things about those places, but I don't believe her for a second and would love to move elsewhere when I can.
Tell me - for the people who have been to all three.
Which would be the better place to live? |

I have been to Ireland and I'm heading to Scotland in September. My friend and I have talked about the possibility of moving to the UK or Ireland in the near future.
The best advice that I would give you though is to go visit the places that you're thinking about moving to before you move. When you're there think about how it would be to live there and try to see if you could get along there.
My friend and I have rented a flat in Edinburgh and we will go to the grocery store for food, use public transportation and the likes.
You may end up loving a place and then your decision is easy. Or you might decide its a nice place but not really for you.
Good luck! |

Lucy, you aren't "very Irish or Scottish" but you are VERY American. I am not a big fan of the United States myself because of your governments foreign policy but I still feel you should at least say you are proud to be American rather than aspiring to be Irish or Scottish, just because you think you may have some long lost ancestor from these shores.
I think England would be the best place for you if you do move over to the UK. |

I live in England, but I have been on many holidays to Ireland and Scotland, I'd say scotland ^^ I think the people there are nicest and it is easiest to settle there. |

SPCA of Scotland offers scholarships for veterinary students who agree to work in the SPCA clinics for a specified time after graduation. Check them out.
Look up 'veterinary scholarships scotland' and you will find government offers ( working as ag inspector after grad) and the SPCA program. |

Scotland is very beautiful but the north west is breath taking in scenery. However it is nearly always raining and dull grey skies, also is cold most of the year. The people are friendly but most disillusioned by the ever increasing crime and unemployment rate in most of the Scottish cities and towns. The law doesn't seem to be just and victims forgotten about and offenders treated as victims. I suggest you come for a few months break first before moving to anywhere in the U.K. The cost of living is high compared to the average wage. England is flat and not as stunning as Scotland but has better weather yet again suffer even more problems in cities than Scotland, reguarding unemployment, law and order and a lot of immigrants from all over the world coming to an island which cant even support its patronates. Ireland is a divided country of North and South and some parts beautiful and the Irish people are warm and full of humour. I would think again and really look at a countries economy before making any decision. Home no matter where you are is where the people you love are and remember sometimes the others man grass always looks greener. good luck. |

i live in England and it really depends what area you move to as to what it is like, some of England has breath taking scenary, but the peopl are rubish and some seem rough but the people are really nice, a good tip is if you wish to move then move in winter, i know it is cold and damp but much of Britain relys on the tourist trade, if you move in the height of summer then people will always see you as a tourist, most tourists will not visit in winter as they can not take the cold and damp air, so they know you intend to settle and make a life they will except you alot more than if you move in summer, both England, IrelandScotland have their good and bad point, i have been to all 3 and most of the time it is a great place to be sometimes it is not, it is not until you move here that you realise what predudice goes on, but on a whole Britain is a lovely place to be, scotland is great, and so is Ireland, butyno matter which place you choose you will ha eto prove you intend to stay and become part of the comunity you have chossen to live in, some places are bad why not stay with some family first and see if you like the area, most places can be lonely and tough if you do notknow people, at least with family you have a so called base camp to explore your choosen areas, most can be reached in a day, and if it does not suit you then you have family to return to and support you, so my advice would be to come here for holidays maybe a month at a time and explore the different areas then you can decide for yourself, but if you are stuck up you will not make it most peopkle here like to know where they stand, best of luck honey i hope it all works out for you.but there is no better place for me i live in the midlands but often visit the other places, so it is a hard decission |

All three of these plus Wales are fantastic places to live, there is no major difference between them at all. |

I agree with the other users, come for a couple weeks/months and visit each country (including wales!)
I haven't been to Ireland but I've been to Scotland and Wales and live in England. The economy is better over here than in the USA (just look at the dollar:pound exchange rate!) but its not as good as countries with the euro.
The weather...well it can be great it can be miserable. Whatever England gets, Scotland in general tends to get to a greater extreme.
There are beautiful places in all four countries, but I would be inclined to say Scotland is the most breathtaking, most remote too what with all the mountains.
Ireland is also pretty beautiful but it is divided North/South. While the two parts no longer fight, there are still the scars.
Come and see us lol ^___^ |

If you want to move to another country, then move to Canada, no really, it is beautiful and free of all the bad things...honest, when we were in Ireland, car bombings and people shooting all the time, we cut our vacation short by 6 days due to this...and I know its not all parts ,but it is getting worse all the time....Scotland is great, we loved the mountains, and the people were friendly and really helped when ever you need them......and now England is a different story, it is one of the easiest places to get lost in, no, thats a good thing, you get lost in the love of the city, and the stores, and the people are always so great, no rude folks here, except for some of the high end society snobby people....but hey just rub elbows with them too......you would fit in really well with England, this is a dog country, the dogs there are treated like real royalty, whether it be a pure breed or not, their dogs are sacred to them.........just look at all the dog shows all the time...
Now, back to Canada, this is one of my favorite places, Calgary, it is beautiful, and everywhere you go, the people do not treat you like a tourist or a person that has just moved there. the homes, apartments there are really nice, and the jobs are abundant, for real....I have a friend and her husband that moved there 4 years ago, they said they would never move away from there.....and they take a trip every year and go to Alaska, they went to Kodiak this last year...she said it as really pretty and so nice.....
I have been to Fairbanks and Anchorage, and it was beautiful also......
Now Canada gets cold I know, but so does all the other countries, but not as bad I guess, have not been there in dead of winter, we were in Paris in 2006 for Christmas and it was cold and tons of snow, it was so nice......
I would hate to think you would move so far away and be alone, I know it wont be like right now, but please think it over before you go.......And make sure you visit each place and shop and do all the things you would normally do to see if you can make it in that country......I think, I know you pretty well by now, and I think you would do well no matter where you go...but please make sure.........okay.......good luck kiddo.
Maybe if you move over there, you could actually see Paul of the Beatles, ha ha.....he goes alot of places........
or man, I bet you could meet a Prince and become a Princess and then you could have all the dogs in the world around you, big ole castle, with huge fenced in gardens, and big ole fat security guard at the gates to keep all the unwanted people out.....oh oh I know, and you could buy all the horses you wanted and ride around in a big ole horse drawn carriage with your little umbrella over your head to keep the sun off of you, and you could have your dogs sitting all around you.
now back to reality.......Move to whatever country you desire, and I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world.....
just dont forget to get a laptop, cant lose contact with you okay.......
oh oh or if you move to Scotland, you could meet Colin McCloud, have you seen the movies Hiighlander, nah, all his wives die early and he lives on forever. tee hee |
