Those who don’t think England has a lot to be proud of either haven’t travelled much (or read much) or are suffering a severe cultural inferiority complex from too much political correctness.
I have to travel around the world - a lot - and although enjoyable and exciting it is always a delight to be back - freedom, safety (incredible – the police don’t beat you up), democracy, literacy, universal healthcare, education, history, incredible range of cultural activities, architecture, football, cricket, rugby (Brit inventions) … clean water (fantastic!) … and England is one of the most creative places on earth.
The list could go on and on. Enjoy!!! |

For such a small island, we should be very proud of what we have achieved. As for david d's answer, does he not realise how late the u.s entered the war? And that was only after the attack on the state of pearl harbour. Pearl Harbour not a state? It was when the Japs left it.!! |

david d is right, not on the yanks helping us out but in joining the war.the yanks cant help themselves, they are not happy unless they are illegally storming into someone elses country and raping it off all of there natural resources and stating that they are doing it for democracy.....bullet loving idiots the lot of them. |

Gave the world literature ! The worlds most significant inventions ! The ENGLISH LANGUAGE which most country's speak ! The Westminster Parliamentary System which the rest of the world would like to copy !
As for David D I would remind him to check with his history books again and see just when the USA ( Our very good friends ) actually joined WW2 ! It was of course AFTER the Battle of Britain had been won by the British !! Same in WW1. the USA were late to join ( when it was all over ) . I am in no way denigrating the USA as things would have been tougher without the US of A . The lend lease programme was a invaluable !!
Note we only talk about England when the subject is specific to England other wise it GT Britain !
So to be polite UP YOURS david d |

Are you saying that like it's a good thing, or a bad thing?
(I could make a case for either.)
Genuine pride, and misplaced pride.
We've a lot to be happy with, and proud of.
And a lot that's wrong and to be ashamed of.
When I have to explain to my Chinese and Indonesian contacts that, no, they're not wrong, they're just using far better English than the average Engish person does, it's nothing to wave the flag about. It's embarrassing.
(edit: I'm amused... what exactly did I say that isn't true?
Do you want a list of what I love and admire about the UK? It would be quite long. But if you want me to ignore what needs improving, you're out of luck. It's BECAUSE I value my country I want it better than it is.) |

Proud of What Exactly.
I can't see it from History? Can you ??
Proud that it needed the USA to rescue it in 2 World Wars??
It was nearly all over for England when the USA arrived.
England gave it it's best shot, but was about to be overrun when the USA came to the rescue. Chuchill had been trying to get the US into the war for years.
What has England Acheived ?? Built the cruelest and least just empire the world has seen and watched it crumble ??
And since when is England an Island?? A bit self-delusional aren't we?? Ever heard of a place Called Scotland?? |
