I am in love with a English man! Accent is great...people can never understand him though! I find myself translating english to Americans (we live in the south)...what's up with that? lol |

I'm a Geordie, from Newcastle in the North East of england and when we moved to the North West I had to modify my accent so that people could understand me. Now I have a very slight Geordie accent most of the time but if I talk to another Geordie I become broad again immediately. I love the fact that people here have different accents, some are great and some annoying but they are all wonderfull in there own way! It doesn't annoy me when people comment. I love the american accents I've heard but haven't worked out a way of knowing where people are from by them. I think the best places to visit are in the North, the North East coast then drive across to the Lake District but Scotland is fantastic, so is Wales and Devon and Cornwall! |

Doesn't annoy me no, it irritates me when people presume because I'm from England I have an RP English accent I don't I'm from Northern England and sound like I am. I personally don't particularly like the American accent myself although it is diverse and some are nicer than others. The best place to visit in England, London is probably good for sights but for nice places the Lake District is beautiful. I don't think you should ignore Scotland it is a very lovely place and lovely countryside. |

I live in england and even I love some of the accents over here.
Either proper strong northern accents, or a real genuine cockney one[:
Nothing in between though. That just sounds plain.
Most of the american accents I hear are on TV so they sound quite smarmy.. but I know thats only because most people on tv are smarmy.. says nothing for every other american lol.
I really laugh when people come over here and expect us to all sound like Jude Law and Hugh Grant. I have never in my life heard anyone with an accent like Hugh Grant.. I'm almost sure he exaggerates it. |

True british English is NOT an accent it is the REAL language but local dialect is. if you are american then do not take offense but MOST american accents are SOOOOOOOO annoying and also americans say they speak real english which they DO NOT because it is a cockney version of english, and they speak AMERICAN if they spoke english they would sound like a real english person like me.
i am from newcastle upon tyne UK
LONG LIVE BRITISH ENGLISH AND DIE AMERICAN ACCENTS OR SAY YOU ARE SPEAKING AMERICAN NOT ENGLISH.
AS YOU CAN SEE I HAVE VERY STRONG VIEWS ON THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND THOSE WHO SPEAK IT |

I lived in the US for 5 yrs. When I came back to India, I had the accent, and people actually laughed! Now my accent is normal, but occasionally I do speak in the uS accent (accidently!)
Did you know that Indians have the clearest accent? Aussies have the worst. (Have you heard Ricky Ponting?) |
