English folk on holiday?

So what's the fascination with Cornwall as a vacation destination? Why do the English think it's that great? People who could go to the continent, or to New York or Miami, time and again, choose Cornwall...........why?

Speaking for myself, there's something about that combination of corn and wall that just can't be duplicated anywhere else in the world. I could go to New York and eat corn on Wall Street, or go to Belgium and eat corn with the Walloons, but it just wouldn't be the same.

maybe they can't afford the other options.
Hey, I liked Cornwall when I was there!

It's an English riviera, nice warm weather.

Im off to cornwall on monday for my hols...

its got fantastic beaches, crystal blue sea, fantastic surfing if you like that sort of thing, lovely little fishing villages, beautiful countryside, rugged cliffs and windswept spooky moors, tons of history, the locals are fabulous and welcoming, it can be relaxing and peaceful, or you can go to places like Newquay and party all night.

Its got something for everyone.

My main interests are the beautiful scenery, safe beaches for kids, relaxing atmosphere and wonderful food - there are some fab restaurants, great freshly caught fish and shellfish. and being so southern the weather is fab in the summer.

Cornish pasties, cream teas, sitting on the harbour wall with fish and chips, you just cant beat it.

My husband wants to go abroad next year, but give me cornwall anytime!

Roll on monday...

Cornwall has great beaches and good weather. Also has fantastic sightseeing such as the eden project and the tate gallery. Why wouldn't people want to go there , it's just as good as going abroad and alot cheaper. Also creates more jobs for the area.

Because it's the most rugged, beautiful place in the UK and not full of people from other countries telling us that where they live is the best place in the world...

what a narrow minded question!

If you had ever been to Cornwall then you would never have even posted this question!

I have travelled to Europe and the US - and I would rather go to Cornwall any day!

Cornwall is a cheap place to get to and it has some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole of country.

Why would you want to go abroad, when everything you could want is in the UK.

A lot of people can NOT afford to travel outside the UK.

because of the variety of things to do there - history, peacefulness, the views, surfing etc
its only a short drive away so if needs be you can get home quickly.
you don't have to worry about holiday insurance.
you don't have to convert your money.
everyone speaks the same language.
there is always something new to discover.

Monty
cos i have lots of friends there so it makes it a nice reunion holiday.

j_emmans
People retire to cornwall from all over the world, it has a charm and has its own language! and flag

Personally speaking....
Cornwall is beautiful, full of history, amazing beaches, amazing countryside and I have NEVER met friendlier peopl!
The food is out of this world, the service everywhere (for me) was brilliant and it is my favorite place in the world!
Not to mention the fact that they understand English, use English currency AND can be reached by car!
Why the hell would travel across the world to somewhere that treat you with contempt, take ages to be served, have to fight other tourists to get seats etc, high chance of being SHOT, they look at you like dirt and blame you for the wars of the planet and generally, not very nice people.
As I say, I speak from personal experience.
Stuff the states! Cornwall wins it every time for me and is always a holiday I make every year!

I'm English and I agree with you. If the countryside is what you're looking for you should be in the North of England and Scotland, it's a hundred times better. If it's the weather go abroad. Cornwall is mainly a destination for chavs and stag nights now anyway.
