English people: have you ever had a good foreign holiday?

I'm looking to go abroad this summer and it would be nice to have a few ideas to think about.

So far my only holidays outside of England have been Llandudno in Wales (when I was about 10), and Salou in Spain last year.

I've had some amazing holidays.
I study spanish, so i've been to spain quite a few times, Bilbao and San Sebastian are amazing, San Sebastian is beautiful. I've been to Barcelona, Girona, Madrid (the people were pretty unfriendly), Toledo, Sevilla (brilliant weather, really nice place), Granada, Andalusia and Gibraltor. The only problem with Spain is that there are so many tourist, especially in the South.
If you are wanting to go further afield, Dubai is good, although very very hot. It has amazing shopping and in one of the malls there is an indoor ski slope (with real snow). I've been to Tokyo in Japan, which gets pretty hot adn humid in the summer, but is such a cool place. The culture is very different and it's so interesting to see.
Australia is good for both sightseeing and chilling by the beach, I've only ever been to Cairns in north Australia though, whilst i was there i went scuba diving, chilled on the beach, went to this aboriginal museum/rainforest tour.
In Africa i've been to Zimbabwe (very briefly), Zambia, and Botswana (for a safari day trip). In Zambia we saw the Victoria Falls, which were absolutely breathtaking, went on safari, did all that sort of thing. If you go on safari though, the early mornings and bugs are a bit of a b1tch.
Canada is also worth a visit. I have family in Vancouver so i have been there quite a few times, and it's an amazing place, friendly people, beautful scenery, good food and loads to do.
The US is pretty cool too, New York is awesome, my favourite place in the States. I really enjoyed going to Florida as well though, you've got disneyland, the keys etc down there and you can have a really good time.
Finally South/Central America has some pretty good places to go too. I lived in Mexico for a month last year, and it was one of the best times of my life, however, beware the police, they take corruption to a whole new level. Guatemala is great for sightseeing, plenty of Mayan ruins to look around and forests to trek through. Belize (next to Guatemala) has some stunning scenery too, we went to the islands off the coast and the beaches and time we spent there was incredible.
If you do enjoy sightseeing/trekking, then Peru is a must. You can walk the Inca Trail, see Machu Picchu and cusco (which is at about 3000m above sea level), you can go to the rainforests or look round Arequipa in the South.
Sorry for rambling on for so long! Have a great holiday!

Ok well Paphos in Cyprus is really beautiful.
But my best holidday ever was in Tokyo,(the shopping is fab) its very busy and full of people it would be a holiday for more young people I think, people that want a more active holiday instead of relaxing.
Perth Australia is also amazing, and if you dont mind travelling you could go from Tokyo then on to Australia, (but dont forget our summer is Australias winter) Hope I helped x

YES! Lisbon capital of Portugal is beautiful with its cobbled roads and there are so many sales in the summer!

Depens what you are looking for.Magaluf in Majorca and San Antonio in Ibiza are the best for clubbing and nighlife.Plenty of night life.Sunny all day to relax and only a couple of hours away. You will never go to Llandudno again once you have been aboad, until you are 60!

Any of the Balearic Islands. For a more lively holiday choose majorca or Ibiza. Plenty of nightlife, good beaches, good shopping, good weather (hopefully) Not too far to travel (shorthaul)
Have been to Salou didn't like it, the islands are much nicer.
Have a good time take plenty of Euros as prices have gone up all over the eurozone in the past 12 months.

France - Paris and the Dordogne
Italy - Tuscany
USA - San Francisco/California
Spain - Barcelona
Netherlands - Amsterdam

These are places where I've had great holidays :) I'd say San Francisco was the best, followed by Barcelona.

The most relaxing was cycling in France, staying at Gites de Ferme and eating with the host families, not quite as cheap as you may think, but you stay in wonderful places. You never know until you turn up where you will be staying, I have slept in barns and castles, all have been clean and friendly.

Cruising is the best Holiday, especially if they call at different Ports. I was on the QE2 last year, and it was great. Everything is done for you, you meet some very nice people, the staff are great, and you cannot beat it.Try it and you will never want to do anything else.It is the most relaxing Holiday you will ever have.

Awesome. :)

There's a fair sized town in spain called Benidorm. Absolutely fantastic there! Hundreds of top class hotels to choose from, and the night life is pretty good too, but not too overwhelming.
