If you are asking how Britons recognise visting Americans, even though they speak English and wear the same sort of clothes, then

(this is not intended as a criticism of Americans or American tourists to Britain, we love you visiting us and want to you to keep coming, but here are some instant give-aways)

1) Your accents, plus the fact many Americans normal speaking voice is so loud. An American speaking in a London restaurant can be heard by everyone. (now obviuosly, there may be dozens of Americans present speaking quietely that I'm not aware of -- they're blending in.) But from the others we know how quaint we are, how we speak funny, how their room doesn't have air-con, how the showers aren't like home, how nothing is as good as the US.

2) Asking for 'hot' tea. Or, even more hilarious, 'iced tea'.

3) Men wearing white socks.

4) Expecting dinner at 5pm

You're too loud, thing you deserve the best of everything, are brash, believe that America has the best of everything and your way is not only thr right way but the only way! You class mcdonalds as a restaurant, very rarely own a passport, believe the world was created by a god in 7 days, have an unnatural suspicion of everyone, always ask every english person who lives in London if they know the queen.......so many ways that you guys stand out!

amber
In London you ask for directions to "Lie-chest-er" square. Very loudly. From someone on the street handing out menus that probably doesn't even speak English.
