One of the things that I like most about Britain (apart from the free health care, etc) is the people (especially us Scottish people) ;) It's the one thing that I miss when I go abroad. I don't miss the weather (cos it's shite), but I miss the humour that we have here. I've been to other countries and they have great weather, brilliant service, etc etc (things that we don't really get here), but I've always missed and looked forward to coming back and getting a laugh with people.
People from other countries can be so nice, but they seem to lack that sense of humour.
We're just really down to earth here (well, most of us anyway), and we know how to take a joke. It's not the same anywhere else, they don't know how to take you when you're being sarcastic. |

Yorkshire pudding, orderly queues, religious and ethnic tolerance ( I know that there are people who are far from tolerant but they are very much in the minority ); polite shop assistants and waiters; literature, cider, charitableness, Durham Cathedral, Simpson's in the Strand, public parks and museums, public libraries, cheese, safe drinking water...I could go on for hours! |

The British TV!
Have you seen the state of the TV choices you have in some other countries. Even the news here is leagues ahead of other countries. Like America. The level of professionalism in America is just scary compared to the BBC and ITV.
Also, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Blue Planet (David Attenborough...), Spooks, Life on Mars....Need I go on?
Marvellous work Great Britain! The world salutes you! |

I like how people in the UK can appreciate the comforts of life. I like how they can put work aside at the end of the day and relax at the local pub for a while with friends. I like how they enjoy togetherness at the holidays and are eager to include people in their celebrations. I live in the US and here it's work, work, work all the time, people are connected to their jobs 24/7 it seems, but people in the UK seem to be able to separate from their jobs and enjoy life a bit more. |
