Paignton Zoo is fab and definitely worth a visit. They have a ll the 'big' animals i.e. elephants, gorillas, lions, tigers etc. The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is also great. We took our 10 month old son last month and he loved it. They have little 'Nemo' tanks but they have enormous (and I mean enormous) Atlantic, Coral etc tanks. They are well worth a visit. It also has a soft play area where the kids can burn off some energy! Have a fab time x

You must go to Prickly Ball Farm. They have a Hedgehog Hospital, a large barn with all sorts of animals, some you can help feed. There is a nice cafe were you are met by a very friendly cat. (They do have a website)

the milky way is a good day out, its like a farmers theme park, kids will love the chance to feed lambs and goats, theres a bird of prey show, the biggest adventure playground i have ever seen, and loads more

The coast is fairly obvious, but Dartmoor is also very lovely. We used to have picnics by a small river, paddling in rock pools, sitting under a shady tree when it got too warm, listening to the sheep. Bliss!

If the weather's nice, you probably won't get the children off the beach. The kids are a bit young for a lot of the attractions, but if it rains, go to Exeter, you're not too far away there, and there is a tourist centre where you can get leaflets and what's ons.
If you can get to Babbacombe near Torquay, there is a model village they will love. And in nearby Paignton, the Zoo.
Some of the suggestions on here, like Cornwall or the North Devon Coast, although nice places, will probably be a bit far to take such small children. Devon roads and lanes are not of the best, so I wouldn't travel too far. You don't want them teasy and tired.
The children would probably like all the things to see at the Trago Mills shopping centre at Bickington, near Newton Abbot. Go down the A38 from Exeter, and turn off at Drum Bridges, or you could cut across country from Dawlish.
They could run around on Dartmoor, and see the ponies and sheep grazing. The South West Water charity, South West Lakes Trust provides good child facilities at its reservoirs throughout the Westcountry, look at website.

Where abouts in Devon are you going to? I live in Devon and there's loads of places the kids would love. Try Crealy Adventure Park just outside Exeter (animals, rides, indoor and outdoor play areas - I still love it and I'm 23!!), Woodlands, near Dartmoor (mostly outdoor rides), Sandy Bay in Exmouth (holiday park with swimming pool, amusement arcades etc) plus there are some really nice seaside walks like the Jurassic Coastline.

Don't go the Big Sheep or the Milky Way (they're not that great) but you'll find that pretty much all of the coastal resorts have some fun family entertainment, there's also more old-fashioned, more unspoilt seaside towns like Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth which are great for relaxing.

There's also Paigntoon Zoo, Plymouth Aquarium and the Donkey Sanctuary for days out and loads of great little country pubs.

yes lets hope its a good hot summer for you, if you havent been to Devon its a wonderful place.in Dawlish Warren you can visit the cider farms and powder ham castle, go to the local farms they make excellent cream teas with local clotted cream scones with home made jams, Dawlish Warren is named this because in the fields are full of rabbit warrens like watership down. go to a horse and trap ride in a old fashioned tinker caravan its marvellous. lots of beach activities , like beach ball, volley ball etc. the fudge is fabulous. made with local clotted cream.the cider is far better than the factory ciders like strongbow, its stronger scrumpy farms are all over Devon.

Beach is excellent and Torquay for the best cream tea.

Go to the Milky Way, just outside Bideford on the Clovelly road. My kids are 8, 1 ans 11 weeks and we had a great time. Not too expensive, if you book online beforehand you get it cheaper. Doesn't have to be a great weather day as most of it is indoors. They built a new rollercoaster (still small - perfect for your 6 year old) and when they discovered little brothers ans sisters were getting upset this year built a mini one for them so a really nicefamily orientated place. Height for little ones .8 metre (boring info but useful if you've got one like mine who wants to go on everything his big sister goes on! Also, if the little ones queue up for the bumper cars they do a special 'no bumping' round just for them, it's really cute. Hope this is helpful, enjoy your hols x

Loads to see and do on the south coast. The kids would like to spend the whole holiday on the beach. Exeter is just down the road as is Exmouth - nice long beach there. Dartmoor is on your doorstep. Take the kids to the prison, whether you bring them back is entirely up to you. Dartmouth estuary is very picturesque. Further down the road you have Torbay which comprises Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. This area gets very busy with traffic during the hoilday season and especially if the sun shines! So plan ahead.

we go to dawlish warren every year !!! we stay at the welcome site my kids aged 4 an 8 they both love going to the beach in the day ,but not the main beach!!! to busy if you walk up to red rock cafe {ask on site} the beach there a lot better, you can also walk to dawlish from there around 20min but it never seems that long, from dawlish you can go on boat trips also train access easy from dawlish ,if you ask on site there will be loads of details of what is on, when ,on tues there is a car boot on the hill but it is a big hill. you will have a great time food good at the sun burnt arms and lees bar !!!! the boat house is a pub by the beach it may look nice but not worth the money !!! have a great holl ..xx

Take plenty of small change as there are amusements everywhere. I always give my son a fixed amount of money to play with then we leave. We would be there all day otherwise. Have a lovely time hun.
We went there about 4 years ago and I cant remember anything much about what we did, I think that says a lot.

PAUL S
sit in the sun and relax! and let everyone else do the work!

Choose a seaside town, and if you're not planning to take the car, check local transport so you can go into the countryside too. Look at www.visitengland.com - they have lots of information and ideas.

Your kids are young enough to play on the beach for hours without wanting more than a constant supply of fluid and ice cream. Take a picnic and a cooler with water and home-made fruit lollies, plus the camera, and you won't need to spend too much to have a great day and fantastic memories.

The weather can be changeable on the coast so pack macs, rainhats, and wet-weather shoes just in case.

Lollies are easy, you just buy unsweetened fruit juice and dilute it with water, put it into a mould, add a stick and pop it in the freezer. That way your children are getting the goodness of fruit with no additives.

There are many lovely seaside towns with amusements for the children and things you & your husband might enjoy. For example, the town of Tavistock has Tavistock Wharf, a major rock, folk, classical, cinema and theatre venue.

Have a great holiday!

You could always take the family down to looe - its a lovley seaside town with lots of little shops and plenty of cream tea's and ice cream.

You can either catch the 'grey hound' busses or take the little train - which is a lot more fun.

The Combe Martin Dinosaur and Wildlife Park is a must, I was there with my family last year and it was the highlight of the holiday. The kids still talk about it and ask when they can go back.

come to see me i live in plymouth. (joke) no but seriously plymouth is a nice place if you wish to see one of the most important biggest and most historical naval ports. or if you want to see really old buildings and stuff like that or even the steps the pilgrim fathers left and found america on. so just an idea but plymouth is great for history. there is also a large city centre with hundreds of shops. the hoe (the plymouth sound), the barbican (very historical)

we always took our family - childrens ages- 7-9- 10.- 11- 14. to a farm and there is so much to do and see. The farmer allowed them to "muck out" and they would not wash off their wellies,- so proud of it- some the farmer put up on a gentle cows back riding in from grazing and they loved it We did much walking along a river and to see all the dragonflies. And the food was all fresh. Went there 5 years running. So- go to a farm.

Jo
Go to Crealy and Woodlands. " brill places for the whole Family !
