The Guards at all the Royal sites - Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, etc. are real, serving soldiers of the British Army carrying real rifles. More than a few of these guys have seen active service in Iraq or Afghanistan and know how to handle themselves.
"People say they'd kick the crap outa you but what would they do with the gun cause you couldnt just drop it and smack them could you?"
The butt-end of a rifle or the bayonet fixed to the barrel can both be used very effectively on someone who's decided on a bit of impromptu hand-to-hand combat.

Yes the guns are loaded. If you touch them they can defend themselves. If you climbed the fence they would get you. I've been there numerous times, and my friend pushed one...he got hit in the balls with the butt of that rifle. Don't do it. They aren't just for decoration. |

They don't move or respond to you, but if you touch them they will act. They are guards after all and they have every right to stop you if you pose a threat!
I dunno about the guns. I assume they are real and loaded. |

If you push one he will most likely hit you with the butt of his gun.
Their guns are loaded and real.
Try to climb the fence and you'll get shot. |

In theory any Commonwealth unit can provide the guard. On many occasions, the Gurkhas, RAF Regiment and Royal Marines have provided the guard, while a handful of units from other Commonwealth countries have also done so, however the guard is usually found from one of the five regiments of foot guards:
Grenadier Guards
Coldstream Guards
Scots Guards
Irish Guards
Welsh Guards
These are all elite units of the British Army, and all of these units have been rotated through Afghanistan and Iraq. It is pretty near certain that the guards on duty at Buckingham Palace have done at least one, possibly more, combat tours in the past 8 years.
Based on this there is NO reason to assume that their weapons are unloaded.
Now...if you feel the need to go up and make an **** of yourself and mess with a trained combat veteran who is holding a loaded fully automatic weapon....well be my guest...just make sure that your medical and life insurance is in order before you do so and have a card in your wallet with the name and phone number of your next of kin.
If you are lucky you may only get a well deserved mouthful of pavement. |

They are loaded, and they give a person 3 warnings if they enter the grounds uninvited before they shoot |

The guards you see on parade in full dress uniform, carlet tunics etc., do not carry loaded weapons. However, there are fully armed guards out of sight but ready. There is also a police station inside Buckingham Palace with it's own police force who can deal with most everything that comes their way.

I understand that the swords some of them carry are quite sharp. |

Probably loaded. I never noticed they had guns actually. They'd probably stop you before you could get close enough to do anything. |

do not take the chance, hit or push one and you will find yourself on the floor fairly quick. as for there loaded guns i don't know about that.i know there are always 6 to 9 sas men always near by to look after h.r.h. and rightly so.i'am serious. |

If the guns are loaded or not depends on the current theat level, and as for hitting them they would most likely hit you back, i dont know about climbing the fence but as they arnt the only people guarding the palace someone would stop you |

1: They wouldn't say, last I knew.
2&3: Probably knock the crap out of you, they are called GUARDS for a reason. |

Guns are loaded

these are strange questions what are you planning to do?
I wouldn't bother doing any of these as the guns are probably loaded as they are protecting the queen if u hit them they will probably hit you back and they wouldn't let you get close enough to the fence.
ps this is what i think would happen |
