If you will be based in London then you should take day-trips out to see other places. You can get good value day tickets for trains if you buy them a day or two before you travel.
Use a guide book to help you find your way around these towns and cities.

I am glad that you want to get out of London. It is not a typical English city at all.
If you like beautiful buildings, history, good eating and some decent bars go and visit:
Winchester; Canterbury; Oxford; Bristol; Brighton; Bath.

All of these can be visited as a day trip from London. If you like them then you can go back and stay longer.

I live in the Midland's!
It is a wonderful area, full of culture and great places to see - but I wouldn't recommend learning English and obtaining an accent like mine!
Best Area to learn a 'nicely' accented English is Oxford or Cambridge.

Well, for beauty, I don't think you can beat South Devon; Brixham, Torquay, Dartmouth, or go north, and stay in The Lake District...........some absolutely stunning scenery here!! Enjoy!!

Well you've already got some good answers, but just so you know, it's "go *to* England".

You must got to Scotland especially the Cairn Gorms if you like the wild outdoors, but it is all worth seeing.

Cardiff, Wales. Not part of England but is only 2hour high speed train journey along the South Wales Mainline from England. One of the United Kingdoms newest and modern, vibrant cities.

SLF
go to Exmoor or Dartmoor in the west of England for some lovely moorland and sea scenery.

or try Bath, a lovely small Roman city.

or the Lake District in the north.

English is now a second language here so you may have better luck on the Costa

Why London? Its very congested. You should go to Yorkshire. :-)
